Tiki Barber:
He's always been a brilliant idiot. Easily one of the most intelligent people I've covered and also one of the more tone deaf. It's not a stunner that he made some truly insensitive comments in an interview with Sports Illustrated in which he compared himself to Anne Frank. And, in a nutshell, that's Barber. So much good, and so much phony. When in New York, he was always vastly underrated as a player. I covered Barber for most of his career and he remains one of the most versatile backs I've seen. He was also among the most arrogant. Most Giants players hated Barber. I mean, hated him. They thought he was a pompous putz on a lifelong journey to show the world he was smarter than most of his football peers. He worked some members of the New York media (and by worked, I mean suckered) into them portraying him as a combination of Jim Brown, Walter Cronkite and Marlon Brando.

Instances like this one were the reason why he was so disliked. Frank died in a concentration camp as a teenager after hiding from the Nazis for two years. I'm trying to think how a football player who cheated on his pregnant wife compares to a victim of the Nazis. Nothing comes to mind. Maybe it will later. There are a few things athletes should never do: compare themselves to slaves or victims of the Holocaust.

As for Barber, my guess is, his comeback will have moderate success. Barber always had a lot of heart. He was tough and he didn't leave the game because he was physically battered. Barber left because he thought he was on his way to one day host the CBS Evening News. He'll catch on somewhere and one day, I bet, he'll compare himself to Martin Luther King.

See you Monday.

The Tiki Barber comment represents 2 things I hate.

The first being a terrible reference by someone famous to something that makes no sense as an analogy, only in a pathetic attempt to sound intelligent and witty.

The second being the enormous reaction by the world to fly off the handle about one little ignorant comment.

In the end, its another fumble by Tiki Barber. Thats it. Move on.

I thought this article was great!  I agree 100%... Tiki Barber isn't a bad guy, he is just isolated in his own naive, somewhat self-promoting existence.
;Sorta like Freddy from Scooby Doo--lol The kind of guy that looks great in the suit but always has the toliet paper stuck to his shoe...  Did any of you see the Monday Night Football halftime skits they did on him a few years back?  He  went to a libraray and read the book he co-authored with
Ronde to a group of young kids... The kids were actors who were scripted to say things to Tiki like.."your brother is better than you" and basically just bust his chops.  Tiki's face looked like he just lost his teddy bear or something--he was legitimately hurt during the prank... without getting all siggy freud i think Tiki still has a lot of the "black kid in a white neighborhood" in him and has pedestaled himself not out of selfishness or arrogance, but insecurity and uncertainty.  Now you would think at this point that would have faded, but it still lines a lot of his comments.  Am not giving him a pass--he has to coin for some therapy, but I think at the heart of Tiki is a solid guy who needs to grow up.

Tikki is an idiot.  He cant keep his outh shut.  Thats  as bad as football and basketball players  comparing what they do to real war. Tikki is about to find out nobody is gonna pay a fumbling OLD ass running back. A position in the nfl they believe is a dime a dozen.  He might get a gig but not for the $$$ he thinks he is worth.  Probably wouldnt need it if he could have not left his 8 moth prego wife for a liitle intern.  He's probably broke.

?  Seriously?  CONTEXT?  There is NO context in which you can compare yourself to Anne Frank.  None.  Nor can you compare youself to a slave.  If you are comparing youself to those people for any reason, you are clueless.  There is zero context in Tiki's comparing himeself to Anne Frank

You didn't read the article, and have no clue what you are talking about.

Why do you even give this guy so much press??  You keep calling him so smart, yet you list all these events where he acts like a retard.  He is not smart, he acts like a loser, he thinks he is better than other people, yet his actions show he is a total loser.  Stop giving this guy so much face time and call him out, he is a LOSER!

Was it maybe insensitve, yes, but that's life.

There is nothing comparable between what Tiki said and what Adrian Peterson said.
