The Daily Shoutout

100 DAYS: That's when the regular season officially begins. Some one...hundred...days. The Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers are supposed to play the former champion New Orleans Saints on September 8. It's both plenty of time to get a deal done but also not a lot of time. Think of this as a 100-day lockout checkup. Will that game be played? My estimate remains yes, it will. But it's not as confident a yes as it once was. I've always maintained the sport would return in late July and into August and no regular season games would be missed. That prediction still looks valid but with the 100-day mark now here it's getting dicey. If the players win the lockout case before the 8th circuit, we'll have football immediately. If the players lose, we'll be pushing it.

So basically as 100 days until the season opener is here, we wait. And wait. And cross our fingers.

TONY DUNGY: Keep that name in mind for the Ohio State job. He'd be a great hire. The Buckeyes could hire a guy with a Super Bowl ring who has a reputation as one of the cleanest and most sincere men in all of sports. Dungy could clean up the corrupt Ohio State program and win a bunch of games in the process. Not bad.

I am serious about this.
If the players Really think they have a bad deal then don't play.  It's "play" afterall; we all played it when we were young.
I know about the life span. Make even the lower end 1-2 million a year for the, granted, short span of 3 years and you should be able to take care of yourself financially for the rest of your life. Maybe not in the grandest style but very well for sure.
Right below the pro level is another level of very good college players and others who have been in and out of the NFL. To me this is not like A ball verus AAAA ball. The skill level is there.
Fans just want games and not this miserable bickering between millionaires and billionaires.

no way in 100 days.  the players are relying on the courts and sometime in late august will lose.  after that negotiations will begin.  the owners will be so ticked off they will be hardline in negotiations. in late sept the players will cave, losing half the season. fans will be so ticked off about an artificial, shortened season that they stay away in droves.

Who do the owners and the players think pay for their excessive salaries? The last time this happened, I didn't watch pro football for several years. It happens again, and it is college time forever for me.

The suggestion as Tony Dungy being the right choice as head coach at Ohio State University is the first intelligent thing that I have ever read on this blog.
