Players like CBA deal...so far

Posted on: June 22, 2011 5:01 pm

If the responses of the five players I contacted is any indication, the new collective bargianing agreement should pass a vote by the player membership somewhat easily.

Though the players explained to me they don't like everything they know about it thus far -- the true sign of a good deal is when both sides are unhappy about some aspect of it and that seems to be the case -- overall they think it's a solid one for the players.

"Most guys won't love this new CBA," said one player, "but they'll live with it."

That seemed to be the sentiment of the players I spoke with. Good deal they can live with.

The players I talked with are a cross-section of the league that represents many different echelons of NFL life.

What they hate: the potential length of the CBA which might be 10 years. They worry the revenue stream might grow so rapidly it could outpace the usefulness of that decade-long length.

What they like: that teams will have to use almost 100 percent of the alloted cap space and the increased benefits for retired players.

My guess is most players will feel the exact same way about the new deal. They won't love but will find it tolerable and then they'll vote to pass it.

Sticking up for the owners is real smart....

You are a moron if you think the owners are just exercising their capitalist rights. They have anti-trust exemptions, they beg money for free stadiums, and then they blow up a perfectly good CBA just to squeeze a little more money. The players can go hang for all I care, I have had enough of the thuggery and entitlement, but the owners are just as bad. If the owners competed against each other, then you would have an argument, but they don't so you don't. The owners are greedy lying sacks of crap, and I would have more respect for them if they cut the bull about caring for players and fans and just fessed up to the fact that all they care about is money. At least then they could lay some claim to integrity.

Generally if neither side says they're happy but they can live with it it means it's a good deal. No one is going to admit publicly they came out on top so the other side won't pull out.

I'm hearing from sources we are 2-3 days away from a deal.  Free Agency starts 7-15-2011.  We finally get to talk and write about football again.

The Daniel Snyder comment was a little off.  Does anyone really know how he built his business?  That mentality that the owners don't really do the work is another welfare whiney baby. Just because he built an empire and obviously knows how to use his money, he doesn't do anything?  He runs a team that employs lots of people, players included.

So, anytime someone is making lots of money we need to knock them down to our size, because that's not fair.  You must be a democrap.

Clearly the comments from someone who lives in North Carolina (if you catch my drift).
Not sure what that has to do with it? But, okay.  Not poor owners.  You obvoiusly believe that healthcare should be government ran as well.  I'm not saying the owners are the victims here, they are within their rights do as they wish with THEIR business.  If you owned a business, you should be in control on how you spend your money.

Players do abuse their bodies, they get paid very well for it.  Nobody is telling them that they have to play 5, 10, 15 years.  Players could use the 3 years or 4 years of free(most players)college education they received to learn to invest and spend their money wisely. Matt Stafford could never play again and already has more money than you and I combined, and we will have to work until 60 or more.

Bottom line is that there is plenty of money to go around, the owners should be able to determine how much.  There are lots of guys that would take the current players roster spots.  Sure, the game would suck, but there will be another draft, and another. Eventually in a couple of years it would be exciting.

Are u serious? . I was posting to the guy who said "trust fund baby, danny snyder anyone". Danny Snyder isnt a trust fund baby because he built a billion dollar business, sold it and bought his football team.

I give up CBS-these boards are just awful

DANIEL snyder may be the worst owner in sports. I know he is a total dik. But he isnt a trust fund baby. He wasnt handed the team. He built a billion dollar communications company and sold it. So at least know a little somthing about what you post, before you post. I know that is difficult for 99.99% of the posters here.
