Manning, Brees also want free agency

Posted on: July 19, 2011 11:37 am

There are more problems in the final days of the CBA negotiations between the owners and players and those issues settle around Peyton Manning and Drew Brees.

Multiple sources say that Manning, one of the named plaintiffs, wants immediate free agency in order to settle the lawsuit. Those sources also say Brees wants to be a free agent next year. The sources say lawyers for the NFLPA have asked NFL owners for those two things in addition to the reported demands from players Logan Mankins and Vincent Jackson.

The new CBA will get done but this is still a troubling sign that the the NFLPA is making last ditch efforts to get more from the owners. It can, indeed, slow things down.

Again, a deal will get done this week but this is not great news.

Brees is scheduled to earn $10 million in 2011 and Manning was tagged for 2011 that would pay him $23 million.

A CBA cannot be agreed upon unless all the plaintiffs settle the case.

Manning, Brees also want free agency

What a crock I respected Brees and Manning till now (actually I stopped when they used their names in the lawsuit)
They want to scrap their contracts and go to the highest bidder
What about all the other players who would like new contracts
They can't get by on the tens of millions of dollars they make now, they need another million or 2 a year
This could stop the negotiations just as a settlement appeared to be in the works
Maybe it is planned, then the season would have to be scrapped and make the owners look worse
or is it just 2 spoiled multi millionaires

Manning, Brees also want free agency

so quick to jump to conclusions. maybe peyton wants to be a free agent, sign for less and get help via free agency so his team can contend. dree brees deserves more than 10 mil. idk i dont care how good you are, if you command 23 mil a year, you better get me to the championship game if not the super bowl every year

Manning, Brees also want free agency

I will accept the premise that Manning does not want to leave his team, but just wants more money.  How much more does he need?  For everyone that is yapping about Manning not having more rings because of his team's defense or running game, GET A CLUE!  The Colts already pay Manning so much that there are limited funds to pay for defense.  So now, Manning wants more and that will mean even less of a chance to improve the defense.  If you want Manning to get paid even more, he better learn to play some defense or his team will never get another Super Bowl ring, and he will be as much to blame as anyone.  He gets paid way to much to be a post game choker and he prevents the team from getting more defensive players.  Anyone saying that Manning is underpaid is delusional.  Be a fan of stat boy if you want, but I want to be a fan of a player that really wants to win a title, not just compile stats.

Manning, Brees also want free agency

$23 million isn't enough?  So not only is Peyton OVERRATED, he's a money grubbing putz as well.    He should be happy he got GIFTED the ONE RING he has ... which was paved with bogus pass interference calls in the endzone no less.    Just SHUDDAP and play.    As for Brees ... I thought he was a standup guy ... if you signed a contract, PLAY IT OUT.   $10 million in a bad economy and he's wants out .. unbelievable.    Brady >>>> than both of em, on AND off the field.

Manning, Brees also want free agency

Never did like Drew Brees but I used to be a big Peyton fan.  Not now.  These 2 said last
week just sign the deal, let's play football and now they
are holding things up with extremely selfish demands.  Not surprised at Brees, because
it's all about "him", but Manning, you go in the mud.

Manning, Brees also want free agency

The average NFL fan will agree with me because we can't go to our bosses and demand immediate free agency and get paid a large sum of money simply because we "threaten" to quit.

Although i do agree with you, its not because I try and compare my 50k a year job to that of Peyton Mannings. That would make me naive. I think Id have a little more clout at work if I was generating even 1% of the money for my company that Manning generates for his.

Manning, Brees also want free agency

Your knowledge of Manning and Brees, and the NFL for that matter, is obviously poor... neither want free agency so that they can leave their present teams... their goals are to improve on the deals they currently have without getting slapped with a franchise tag.
