The end of McNabb in Washington near?

Posted on: July 26, 2011 11:41 pm

A league source has confirmed to me that Donovan McNabb is inching closer to leaving Washington and joining Minnesota. Closer, closer, closer but not done. Not yet.

The Vikings and Redskins have agreed on a deal that sends McNabb to Minnesota for a late-round pick, the source said. The source also said that reports McNabb is holding up the deal are untrue. My guess would be that Washington is trying to bleed the Vikings dry for everything they can so as to help justify the trade. McNabb is willing to drastically reduce his salary, I'm told.

There's one other thing that's interesting. It's possible, I'm told, that McNabb would have a very short leash in Minnesota. The organization wants to give Chrisitian Ponder every opportunity to play, I'm told, and should McNabb stumble like he did in Washington the Vikings might not hesitate to pull McNabb.

The end of McNabb in Washington near?

What makes anyone think McNabb will be a good mentor? Do you think he spent a lot of time helping Kolb while in Philly? If you are really depending on an older QB to mentor a younger one for his development, you're already in trouble. You get a QB coach to do that, not some old has-been who has never been all that smart on the field either.

And to those who think the Vikes have the weapons, exactly who are you talking about with Rice gone now? And you're also assuming your offensive line will be able to keep McNabb or Ponder off their back long enough to find an open receiver.

This is not a good move no matter how you look at it. Like the old saying goes, you can't polish a t**d.

Its time for the fans to lockout the NFL.  Monday Night Football with 10 fans in the stands.  That would be awesome.  The NFL thinks the fans will always be there.  They forget we can bankrupt them

The end of McNabb in Washington near?

I think Dnabb will have a great year in Minn. He will have good Wr,s available and an elite RB. I predict Dnabb will be the comeback player of the year.

The end of McNabb in Washington near?

Hope Minnesota fans enjoyed the view from the cellar last year, with McNabb as their NEW STARTING QB it may be reality for them sitting in 4th for awhile. The biggest loser in the deal would be Ponder... McNabb hasen`t been good about mentoring anyone. Webb might benefit from the trade, since McNabb gets injuried often. Guess it doesn`t matter who the Vikings owner, GM, or coach is, they never learn from past mistakes... Moon, Cunningham, Ferotte, Favre, now McNabb... has been, after has been, and so on...

The end of McNabb in Washington near?

Just because McNabb is potentially going to Minnesota, does not mean he will be the starting qb.
It is a distinct posibility that he will going there for the sole purpose of being a back up and mentor.
He is old. He is banged up. It is a shame he is going down this way. He did a great deal of great work when healthy in Philly.
Washington was a train wreck from day one. Shanahan's system in the last few years has been run first. McNabb was asked to do much more in Philly and did so with pretty good success. Having Westbrook in Philly helped immensely. He made McNabb look good quite a bit of the time. Washington didn't really have a Westbrook and McNabb took a lot of blame for an underachieving team in Washington.

Its a win-win for the Vikes....He comes in and does well gets them back to the playoffs...Great....he comes in and stinks it up...They go to Ponder and he learns what he can before Mcnabb is history....He's only gonna be there for  year anyway......I bet McNabb is thrilled to finally have an elite RB  tho....

It is a shame that DNabb's career comes to an end in this way... bounced from Philly, and now bouncing from paycheck to paycheck leaving a trail of disappointment everywhere he goes.

Retired McNabb.... do it.

I love the "Shanahan knew what he was doing" narrative.  Did Washington trade for McNabb for the SOLE PURPOSE of proving that McNabb was overrated?  That's the only explanation that makes sense.  Is this connected to the comments Rush Limbaugh made back in 2003?  I know that one-time Redskins Pregame host Steve Czaban was on board with this.
