The end of McNabb in Washington near?

Posted on: July 26, 2011 11:41 pm

A league source has confirmed to me that Donovan McNabb is inching closer to leaving Washington and joining Minnesota. Closer, closer, closer but not done. Not yet.

The Vikings and Redskins have agreed on a deal that sends McNabb to Minnesota for a late-round pick, the source said. The source also said that reports McNabb is holding up the deal are untrue. My guess would be that Washington is trying to bleed the Vikings dry for everything they can so as to help justify the trade. McNabb is willing to drastically reduce his salary, I'm told.

There's one other thing that's interesting. It's possible, I'm told, that McNabb would have a very short leash in Minnesota. The organization wants to give Chrisitian Ponder every opportunity to play, I'm told, and should McNabb stumble like he did in Washington the Vikings might not hesitate to pull McNabb.

The end of McNabb in Washington near?

I would like to think that McNabb has better weapons in Minnesota than he had in Philly or Washington. Then again, maybe not. What I hope for is that he becomes a mentor for Christian Ponder, who I think will take over the team in due time.

So is this all part of the Free Agent Craziness we were promised in the NFL off season?  BORING.  There are only a small handfull of quality free agent players out there that will make any difference to anybody.  Once those few players are signed, the party is over.  Here we are at day two and there really isn't much happening.  Good luck the Vikings with getting McNabb.  BORING.

Im a GB fan so I adore seeing the Vikes screw up, but I actually think this makes sense. They have Ponder who they obviously think is starter/franchise QB material with a decent team set up, but one that is getting old. Don't throw a new guy into an old veteran group to watch the kid struggle, the kid gets frustrated as well as the decent team...get a good veteran to take the reigns while they continue to get younger guys. Get some wins with the team while you can, keep the majority of pieces at least content, give Ponder a year or two to sit behind a proven QB and learn (don't care what all the Mcnabb haters say, he is/was a far above average QB) and hope that he's ready when you're team is a little rebuilt. The team they have now is 2 years removed from a NFCCG, and give them another 2-4 years, they could be back in the POs with a young QB and a much younger team without completely tanking all the years in between.

Being a Packer fan, I heartily applaud McNabb going to the Vikings. Just another attempt at patching a huge hole with an overrated has-been who falls apart at the worst possible times and is over the hill. It's funny how this organization came right out after the draft and said Ponder would be the starter, now they are going another route. One thing for sure, with that offensive line, McNabb had better develop some moves or he'll be looking at the Metrodome roof a lot.

Good move for Vikings to get this guy cheap. (2 6th round picks)  He will know the system & be a steadying veteran presence with a legitimate running game, so he doesnt have to carry the team like he did in Philly. He will keep the Vikings in the game & hopefully steal a couple of wins without making big mistakes.

People should quit crying and quit overrating this guy.  Shanahan does know what he is

doing.   Is it any wonder that the Redskin offense in 2010 under Mcnabb's leadership was the worst offense in football? Why is it

that the same offense directed by Grossman averaged almost 3 times as many points per game.  Maybe Mcnabb is eating too much

Chunky soup these days.  Name recognition alone might land him with another team; but it will not cause opposing defenses to

lie down for him.
