The DeSean Jackson problem

Posted on: July 29, 2011 3:51 pm

DeSean Jackson, understandably, is asking players around the sport how to handle his contract situation with the Eagles, I'm told. Again, this is not a shock but it's still interesting. We already know he's spoken to Mike Vick. But apparently he's seeking advice from other NFL friends both on the Eagles and other teams.

Whether or not Jackson holds out isn't really the issue. If Jackson holds out, he'll be a pain in the Eagles' ass. If he doesn't and shows up without a new deal, he'll be a pain in the ass. The real issue for Philadelphia is Jackson won't be happy until he has a new contract.

And he deserves one. The deal Jackson is working under now is a bargain basement steal for the Eagles. Jackson may be the best all-around weapon in the NFL and he's working on the football equivalent of minimum wage. I know, I know. There are real people working on real minimum wage but in the NFL the Eagles are nonetheless getting the steal of a lifetime.

Jackson's contract situation will be the most interesting to watch in football second only to Peyton Manning's. The difference with Manning is that Manning won't run his yapper.

Jackson will.

The DeSean Jackson problem

The man is not asking for the world. I met him in Vegas a few months back with javid best. Both of these guys were so down to earth. They were in club Tao and i asked why they weren't living it up in the V.I.P and both had the same answers..."why" Best told me he spent his nights before the NFL out of the VIP so why go now. And Jackson said if his purpose was to have a good time, he's hanging with me, where all the ladies walk by and you dont have to lok at thme like a stalker from a lonely vip area.
point is...They were very down to earth, no jewelry, flash etc. they went to the bar, weren't noticed by many, but me and my boys because i like the Eagles and I won and lost alot of money on Cal!
This guy is dynamic, he makes shit happen and while the Eagles can, they need to pay him. He isn't an OCHOCINCO or OWENS..washed up loked for money while they still can, the guy loves football. he talks shit and backs it all up. he makes it exciting. pay him!

pay this guy. he has eared it. it is not a gift. he has earned it. how andy can let this go is beyond me. we were fair to our free agents ow be fair to our regular draft choices. when you draft a player you want them to out perform your expections. that makes you, the coach look good. how can you let, or want to let this guy leave next year. he has doe everything you wanted and more. you know it, he knows it and we know it. stop being stupid and pay this guy. if holmes got 10 mil a yr. he is worth at least that. hhe is more versitle, and a much better human being. no pot problems here. he is a good kid, and a good player.. pay him. 5 yrs betweeen 40 and 55 will get it done.

The DeSean Jackson problem

I'm not a big fan of holdouts & I believe that Desean Jackson desreves more then what he's being paid. He has the potential to take over a game at any minute and has become a breakout superstar in the NFL.

I think it would help his cause for a new contract if he were in camp and showed that he was comitted to the team first and himself second.  I know he would be running the risk of getting hurt and diminishing what he could get in a new contract.  But I really hate Drew Rosenhaus. I believe he screwed up the whole T.O. relationship with the Eagles. who knows T.O. coulda finished his entire comtract or even got an extension if he didn't act like a nut job for half a season.

But hopefully the eagles and Desean will come to an agreement soon.

The DeSean Jackson problem

i hate holdouts but if i was a friend of Deseans, id have to advise him to do what he's  doing..

if not for the lockout, i think the eagles might have worked something out with him in the offseason..

but with two concussions already, he's got to look out for his long time future and make sure he wouldnt walk ahead with less than 2 million bucks for his career if it would end this year...he's at risk more than just about any player ot there due to his size and style of play...

just so his demands are reasonable..

if he's looking for money like sidney rice just got, he's not going to get it....but there should be some middle ground there...

The things Desean can do on the football field are unbelieveable given his slight frame. He has taken some vicious shots on his way to stardom. He's still very young and one of the most dangerous players in the NFL, a proven weapon. He deserves more money and if the Eagles make a fuss about it they're idiots. PAY HIM!

Well Freeman, for the 1st time in a long long time I have to agree with you and I'm not an Eagles fan. This guy deserves a new contract. Will he get it? If the Eagles track record is any type of gauge, not until next year if he decides to stick around. The Eagles have a ticking time bomb on their hands that they need to defuse before he becomes a major disruption.

Desean should see how the CBA works they don't have to get to the cap limit til end of the season what he should do is play his ass off wait til november get paid and it won't hurt the team in case of injuries start fining him now save the trouble and all the whinning eagles fans will shut up come to camp be a man and earn your keep don't play and your team slides out of playoff contention and no playoff bonus

Don't ask other players,  ask an attorney.  A contract is a legal binding agreement between parties.  Which is normally binding unless you are in the NFL and are a crybaby who feels that all of a sudden your poop doesn't stink and you want more money.
Man up.

The DeSean Jackson problem

If I was stuck playing on a perennially bad team I would want more money too. The Eagles will never win the Super Bowl...much less get back to one. They always get blown out in the playoffs. Andy Reid is a very overrated coach. If starting Michael Vick doesn't convince you of that....nothing will.
