Peyton Manning and Tom Brady still battling

This will be Peyton Manning's last contract, his last stint, his last deal before he heads into Canton. Manning already had more money than Trump and this only makes him wealthier. The question for Manning now is simple: what legacy will he leave?

Colts owner Jim Irsay confirmed that Manning signed a contract extension which a league official confirmed was 5-years and $90 million. So the cash is in place. Again. The legacy? More difficult to predict. The end of his career will mirror that of Tom Brady's. Both are around the same age and considered the best of their generation. Manning and Brady are in an arm's race. Brady has the lead with more Super Bowls but it wouldn't be stunning if Manning caught up.

It's true Manning will have to also compete with a number of young, outstanding throwers in his conference like Ben Roethlisberger and outside of his conference like Aaron Rodgers. This one of the great eras for quarterbacks in football.

But for Manning his biggest competition is Brady. That is whom Manning sees as his greatest competition and indeed the two quarterbacks have had some legendary battles.

Brady has the lead but is Manning far behind?

It does suck to lose Session but I hardly see it as a killer, they will need to replace him but it's not like he was a top LB he was just there top LB.

What offseason departures besides Clint Session? No doubt Clint was a beast at LB but hardly a killer to the defense. The kill shot to the defense is not having a consistent DL.

Colts window has closed. Too many off-season departures. Session loss will be a killer for an already weak D.

Actually I was wrong... Irsay's tweet just said the first three years of the contract is worth $69mil. Why Irsay? Why not just make $18mil per year? That extra 5mil this year could have gone a long way for depth and added players. So in all actuality Peyton is taking up 19% of the Colts cap this year. They better get CJ and Addai signed.

Awesome news for the rest of the teams around the league!  In the twilight of his career, he sucks up 20% 0f the entire teams salary cap! Nice.

Manning obviously left money on the table here. But he's always been a team guy and the Colts now have to some to resign other key players. This is one reason why you never hear anything negative about Peyton from NFL people (hater-dimwits on forums don't count)...he's exactly what you want, for many reasons, as your team's leader. I wish my team had a guy like Manning. Or Brady, who has the same qualities.

Really?  Yo Eagles fan, u are paying a cornerback 12$ Mil. a year when u already had to elite ones.  U gotta be kidding me.  Not that I didn't like the signing, but I just can't believe an Eagles fan would comment about how much money for the best player in the league

Also why did your team sign Vince Young? He wouldn't be worth 0.00001 percent of your cap, atleast Manning will get 30 tds and over 4k like always.

I'd rather have my team pay out 18 per year for a top qb than 12 million per year for a cornerback.
