Plaxico to Jets

Plaxico Burress will indeed join the Jets, according to a team source.

The details aren't exactly known but Burress accepted the Jets' offer. It's a one-year deal.

The Jets now have one of the best wide receiver groups in the league. When I tweeted that earlier it caused an avalanche of smart-ass-ness including from wanna be GM Pete Prisco. But I have a higher opinion of Burress as a player than others. I think he's one of the most physically gifted wide receivers of the past decade and his stint in prison doesn't scare me. Just like Mike Vick's stint in the hoosegow didn't totally scare me and we see what Vick did at a much tougher position to re-master.

Vick emerged from prison a better player. I think Burress can as well.

Burress was out west visiting the San Francisco 49ers. The story actually first leaked when a friend of Burress, running back Fred Taylor, congratulated Burress on his joining the Jets.

Burress later wrote on his Twitter page: "East Coast here I come!"

Burress recently had a meeting with his former coach, Tom Coughlin. Coughlin described the meeting as pleasant but Burress' meeting with the Jets must have been more pleasant. Burress also met with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Jets lost out on a great defensive back but they gain a terrific wide receiver.

think that when you are making millions of dollars to p;lay a game, and NOT have to work everyday like us working stiffs, And THEN you screw that all up. You shouldn't get a 2nd chance. Ala Vick. You had what millions of us wanted, and you took it for granted and f"d it up. Why do you deserve another chance?
Because thousands of people will watch them play and pay for it, I doubt either you or I could get 10 people to watch us play football let alone pay for it.

And if you don't think they work then you just don't understand football and the committment required.

Envy is a terrible thing.

I have to agree. I am a Jets fan, but don't see how they have enough fire power in the receiving corp.....Holmes is really good and very clutch....but Burress and Cotchery as your #2 and #3 makes me nervous. Keller got off to a great start last year but then came way back down to earth. I really don't see an improved product as of now....I hope to be wrong of course.

I'd of preferred Randy Moss if they were looking for a 34 year old WR to complement Holmes. I certainly am not against this signing but had hoped Moss would be our #2 since Edwards is as good as gone. Even Vick was a bit rusty his first year back in 2009 at age 29. Not only has Burress not ran routes under game conditions for a few years, he's 34 ! Now they need to kiss and make up with Antonio Cromartie.

Now maybe the Patriots counter strike and add Braylon Edwards as insurance at WR.  He would be a great addition they could have fresh legs every down at the flank position.  Also with the receiver position being as old as they are this would ensure that they would have a healthy Wideout core each week.  We all know Branch has his injuries twice a year and then Welker has had his difficulties staying healthy of late the ocho being 33+, ti would not be a bad idea to have one more veteran running the sidelines.  As far as Burress going to the Jets, alls well they still have Sanchez trying to throw the ball.  He did show improvement last year, but still not sold on this guy as one to get them over the top.  So if anything Burress will miss Eli's passes. GO PATS, Jets blow.

Plaxico stays in NY! Different team, same gun laws! I wonder if the Jets signing bonus will include a holster.

I agree with you 100%. Plax hasn't played in forever, & S Holmes had what, 1-2 good years with the Steelers & made the SB-winning catch against that "vicious" Cardinal defense, which is what got him the big $$$ from the Jets. "One of the best WR duos"? Me thinks not!

It will be the Jets vs Eagles in Super Bowl 46 in Indy. Book it! Jets get another clutch reciever to go with Holmes in Burress. Sanchise now has major ammunition to snatch the AFC East from the Patriots. at the end, it will be two of the BIGGEST braggadocious teams in the Jets and Eagles in SB46!

How dose having a guy(Holmes)who isn't even in the Top10 of best WR's in the league and a guy the has been in jail for two years(Plax)put them as having "one of the best wide receiver groups in the league"????  These guys should have to know something about the game before the are allowed to write about it.
