Or maybe it's part two million.

On Monday night the Giants' excellent defensive back, Terrell Thomas, tore his right anterior cruciate ligament. He's out for the season. It seemed that on the play his foot tripped up, leading to Thomas falling into a teammate. I saw the play and thought he sprained his ankle. But it was obviously much worse.

The play happened with 22 seconds left in the first half.

Twenty-two seconds.

Last year Thomas was one of the most underrated players in all of football leading the Giants in tackles. He's ferocious and speedy and now he's gone for the year because of a dumbass, meaningless preseason game that players don't need and owners only have because preseason is a cash cow.

Now, this is the part where you say: he could get hurt anytime. It could've been in the regular season. It could have been in training camp practice.

I hear those silly arguments all the time. If he'd been hurt in a regular season game at least there was a purpose to it. The game meant something. Getting hurt with 22 seconds left in the first half of preseason game? Tell me that means something. It doesn't.

Cut the preseason down to two games, which is what I want to do, and yes, Thomas still gets hurt. But you're cutting the odds of injury down significantly. (And Giants coach Tom Coughlin should not have had Thomas in the game during such a meaningless period to start with.)

The only reason there's preseason is because owners make huge profits off of it. They get to charge $8 for popcorn and $25 for parking with very little overhead. There's no bigger money making scheme in all of sports (except for maybe personal seat licenses).

I think owners have made profit-loss calculations that say a torn ACL here, a season ending shoulder injury there are worth it because the preseason generates them so much cash.

So another player goes down in preseason. One more reason why these games stink.

The Daily Shoutout: Preseason stinks part 200,000

Preseason should be free!!! It should give those who can't afford or can't get a ticket a chance to see their favorite players.  This should be a family affair because it really means nothing as the author stated!

Free tickets given to some folks in the San Francisco vs. Oakland game results in a severe beating for one fan, and gun shot wounds in two others.

Do you really want to take your family into that environment when idiots with nothing to lose as allowed to roam free?

Free games would mean less profit, more expense for owners, and as a result reduced payroll for the players.

Do you really want that to happen?

But, but, but...All off season reporters, and hack bloggers like Mike Freeman along with the most casual of casual fans whined about an 18 games regular season...they got their absurd wish supported by complete b.s. That injuries would decrease when logic and simple math should they would not. Whether it is a veteran starter or young player trying to make a roster injuries are injuries. The "overhead" claim is another make believe "Freemanism" much like his resume. It is the exact same as a regular season game, wait that is wrong. There is more overhead because more players and equipment for those players are traveling, more hotel rooms, more food, and more expense. From the b.s. That owners were greedy and trying to reduce player payroll, to the b.s. that the same amount of games would magically reduce injuries if less games counted, it was nothing more than excuses and crap to mask the player greed of wanting to be paid more for playing the same 20 games. Sorry your player got hurt Mike, but it is meaningless only because sissified bedwetters like you cried a river to prevent games from having meaning next week. You got your wish. Maybe he did too...

WOW Freeman, you must have gotten too worked up over your recent article on Terrelle Pryor.  You said the guys name in your first sentence, Terrell Thomas, but then kept calling the guy Pryor.  I thought it was just a simple mistake at first, but it comes up a couple more times later in the article!  Hey, at least I got a small laugh at work this morning.

Injuries happen. It would be incredibly stupid to just send these players out to play the regular season without the benefit of a pre-season.  They need to get into playing shape before going all out.  Any player can get hurt at any time for any reason.  Period.
