NFL does the right thing for Jets-Giants

You can be criticial of the NFL for any number of things. Most of what the league does is extremely smart. A fraction of what the NFL does is really dumb. Postponing the Giants-Jets game from Saturday until Monday was not one of those things. This was a damn smart thing to do.

I can tell you as someone who lives about seven miles from stadium where the Giants and Jets play there is panic in some parts of New York and New Jersey. We're just not used to this powerful a storm coming our way. In Florida, they give category three storms the middle finger. Here, a one makes us scurry under our beds.

Much of public transportation in the area is shutting down early beginning Saturday which would have meant more cars on the road for the game Saturday night. Think about that: 70,000 or more people driving home in an impending storm. It would have been potentially highly dangerous.

Smart move, NFL. Damn smart move.

Must be a slow news day...weather reports!  Come on Freeman, I'm sure you want to be slobbing Vicks knob, telling him how great he is and how he soooo deserves his payday.... yawn.

Alot of bashing against the author and you know he doesn't deserve it on this one. The NFL front office is not a collective of scientists and if they make a good decision, we have to acknowledge it. Or we could be asking why are preseason games receiving so much hype, it is a scrimmage for goodness sake. Heck if we could start the season, maybe Chris Johnson and others would get back to work. I also would think the author and us out here in Blog land could help the NFL come up with a decent solution to issues like the Niner Raider game.  (really should edit before I send)

Some of the commenters on CBSSports articles are really out of control. And I'm not just talking about this article. Some people treat every single article as an opportunity to viciously tee off on the author whether he deserves it or not. Not sure what makes people act this way.

Whew!  I was on the fence as to whether this was a smart move by the NFL, but now that I have read this, and God has decreed it a "damn smart move", I feel SOOOOO much better.  I mean, who among us would have realized after the past three-four days that anything going on in that area this weekend wouldn't be a smart thing?  Thank God for Freeman, uber-intelligent, hyper-smart and omniscient Genius....there, I said it....that CBS is lucky enough to have "write" for them.  Thank you Mike....thank you thank you thank you.....without you, we would forever be without anyone stating the obvious.  You idiot.

Would they have done this had it been a regular season game?
Umm, yes....do you sense a conspiracy? Up there with the Canes mess? Whats the point of your post? Practicing your typing?

Outside of your silly post, this is the right thing to do, with the area at a stand still, there is no reason to put anyone(even Jints and Jets fans) at risk. It'll be interesting to see if they can get a game off so quickly if there is a lot of flooding in the subways and if it is logistically silly to bother with a game at all come Sunday.

Let's just hope that they are even able to play on Monday. Power could still be out and storm surge ( which is the #1 killer in a hurricane by the way) could leave many areas flooded for days. Football isn't really important right now. Hunker down NYC, our prayers are with you in the Midwest.

Personnaly, I hope they are going to cancelled that game and let the teams prepare for the next game instead. The Jets are scedule to play the Eagles on Thursday, and really it asking too much from a team to play two games in 4 days, that does not make sens. I hope, they will be smart enough to cancelled the game against the Giants or move the game against the Eagles to Sunday or next Monday. That would be smarter.

I take your point and agree it was the smart thing to do.

However, 70,000 people?

It's still pre-season.
