Manning's immediate future in question

Posted on: September 5, 2011 11:35 am

The Colts did the expected: they said in a statement that Peyton Manning is doubtful to play on Sunday. Translation: he won't be on the field. No way in hell.

The bigger question is something I wrote about this weekend and that's the immediate future of Manning. A source within the Indianapolis organization said the team is concerned Manning could miss several games or even slightly more. I think that's where this is headed.

My guess is we won't see Manning until Week 3 at the earliest and I'm wondering if that is optimistic.

The Colts and Manning are both being careful as hell as they should be. This may be the one time we won't see a miraculous Manning recovery.

Manning's immediate future in question

If I were Peyton Manning, I might consider calling it a career.

What else do you have to prove?

You have a ring, will probably in 'The Hall', still have endorsements and even movie deals. Not to mention TV commentary.

I like watching you play; But why risk it?
;

Why risk it? For a guaranteed 54 to 90 million dollars, that's why.  He already picked up a nice 20 million dollar signing bonus and has an option bonus sometime in the next couple years for sure for 28 million dollars more.  That's why Peyton Manning won't retire.....

Remember something, money to these athletes is EVERYTHING.  They try and fool us with the "I play for the love of the game" and the "money isn't everything" stuff but all of that is B.S.   Peyton Manning makes a fortune playing football and the Colts just signed him to a massive deal. Even his endorsement deals for a lot more money for the most part depend on him playing in the NFL.

Anybody that thinks these guys don't have money as the single most important thing on their list is nuts.....

El Conquistador, your rant was well crafted for a Patriot fan.  Low expectations were met.

Manning's immediate future in question

manning is a sissy doll. sure he's got some records & 1 SB ring. big whoop, with all that talent he should have at least 3 rings. peyton is just a luckier version of jim everett. pitter patter pocket shuffler afraid to get hit, always throwing the ball away or taking phantom sacks. no way he deserves to beat brett favre's consecutive game streak. manning is no john unitas either. he ain't no tough guy.
Hey El Conquistador,

He and Brady are the two best quarterbacks in the league. PERIOD.

I'm no Colts fan but what you said is foolish and downright idiotic. Though I don't root for him and the Colts, I appreciate him as a phenomenal player and respect his greatness.

Sure, if he were done at some point soon and retired, it would help the Patriots chances at winning another Super Bowl. But as a true fan of the game, I don't want that, because being able to watch him play is an incredible gift that should be appreciated by everybody.

Manning does get some happy feet in the pocket at times, LOL! I know what your talking about b/c it looks like a tap dance is going on behind the line of scrimmage!

Manning's immediate future in question

you and whoever else says Peyton Manning will not ever play another down must be smoking crack...ITS PEYTON MANNING PEOPLE AND EXPECT TO LINE UP WEEK 1 UNDER CENTER

You think he's going to start week 1 and accuse others of smoking crack?  No chance man.  Peyton Manning IS the Colts, without him they are a 5 or 6 win team.  With him they are potentially a 10 or 11 win with a chance of doing some damage in the playoffs.

The guy had neck surgery for God sakes.... and he didn't play all preseason.... zero chance you're going to see him week 1.

Manning's immediate future in question

I think it's going to be awhile before we see Peyton Manning taking snaps at QB for the Indianapolis Colts this season b/c he's been so slow to recover and this being his second surgery on his neck. Manning is also getting some age on him, 35 isn't old, but in the NFL it is. The Colts need to start preparing for the day he retires which is hopefully a couple of years down the road, but they need to draft a young QB early in the draft next year and let him learn from the master for a couple of seasons until Peyton decides to ride off into the sunset.
