Manning may miss half the season

After seeing Colts owner Jim Irsay's tweet that his star quarterback Peyton Manning may be "out for awhile" a source on the team explained to me the organization is preparing for Manning to miss a large swath of the season, if not all of it.

Now, to be clear: that doesn't mean Manning will miss the season but the Colts' coaches have been told to prepare the players for life without their star.

What's becoming clear is that the Colts know far more than they're saying publicly. This is not a shock considering the extreme anti-media, anti-information release mindset of Bill Polian, the team's general manager. My guess is the upper levels of the team know exactly what's going on and have decided to release information at a trickle. It seems only Irsay and his Twitter machine are willing to share information. I'm guessing Polian would like to snatch Irsay's computer out of his hands.

The source indicated that Manning has not had an additional surgery. The problem is that Manning's neck continues to heal slowly. The nerve regeneration is proceeding at a far slower pace than expected.

So the Colts are simply being cautious. They want to protect Manning's health.

But the Colts source emphasized caution in saying Manning would be gone for the year. It's been explained to the staff that Manning's neck could suddenly start healing normally and he could play.

For now, however, the Colts are preparing for the immediate future without Manning.

Manning may miss half the season

Colts may have all the money right now,, howver for Manning, he's done.. theres no way he could come back and not worry about getting slammed to the ground then walk away fine,, its not possible... yeah football needs manning but then life goes on,, we said the same about marino,Staubach,Fouts and so forth... I love Manning,. but Ive also had two neck surgeries and both were fusions.. heck.. ive never been the same...

I just hope he makes the right call,, not for himself but his family...
he can do so much more off the field.

Manning may miss half the season

Mike Freeman accumulates everything else that has been posted about Manning and comes to his "own" groundbreaking conclusion. Get a life dude, there are NO insiders in the NFL that confide one iota of worthwhile information to you.

wrong, manning out

That's really not fair. Eli just seems like a dope when you compare him to his brother. He actually scored really high on the wonderlic and has run like the third most pass plays in the league since his rookie year. Nobody looks their best in the shadow of the greastest.

Manning may miss half the season

I am so sick about hearing how awesome Farve's streak was. It was a SHAM. A year or two before Rodgers got there he hurt his thumb came out the next week took a snap to continue THE STREAK. Manning would never pull that kind of crap. You know when Manning does hang it up he'll do it with class like Elway did. There will be none of that drama that fraud Farve pulled.

Manning may miss half the season

That's really to bad I will miss watching Peyton.  Sorry it's the wrong Manning that's hurt.  Eli's clueless but he's the Manning we'll get to watch.
