New deal for Polamalu

Posted on: September 10, 2011 2:42 pm

Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu has signed a new four-year deal, I've confirmed, and with all of the new contracts and extensions signed post-lockout, Polamalu's is one of the most well-earned.

A source with knowledge of the deal said the contract makes Polamalu one of the highest paid defensive players in the league but what this deal represents more than anything is a reward for one of the hardest working and most vicious players the sport has seen. Sure, there are those who believe he's overrated (I'm looking at you Pete Prisco) but he's not.

He's the 21st century Ronnie Lott. That makes him special and this contract is well deserved.

Now, speaking of well deserved, all we need to have is Drew Brees get his deal done.

New deal for Polamalu

this is why Steelers fans are the worse fans of all time. You guys always make excuses for why you lost. you lost cuz the other team played better than you and beat you. so dont give me this crap on how he was 80% healthy. if the coaches didnt feel like he was 100% they wouldn't of started him its just that simple.

He is very deserving of a big contract and will continue to anchor that defense for years to come.  I agree that this is as much of a reward as anything.

And of course for fans like you who don't realize he was playing at well less than 100% in the SuperBowl, and who have never seen some of the workouts he DOES to stay in shape, it's not worth even discussing with you.  Injuries are a part of the game, and the Packers had many too and won the SB deservingly.  But you have no clue if you really believe what you posted about Troy and his abilities.  I will credit him for playing through the injuries and putting out 100% effort in each game he plays.

New deal for Polamalu

The Steelers only offer extensions to players they believe can help them back to the SB. The players they let go normally don't go on to do anything except cash a big check from some other team desperate enough. look at Joey Porter and Alan Faneca. As far as Ed Reed goes: A fantastic player ! How many SBs has he been in ?

New deal for Polamalu

It's not fair (or I think accurate) to compare Polamalu to Ronnie Lott.  I agree with everyone here who thinks Polamalu is a great, special player.  But I have to disagree with Freeman when he says Polamalu is "vicious."  I had to watch a youtube video of his highlights to verify this.  Outside a cheap shot hit on a kickoff (or punt, i forget) I have not seen Troy clean anybody's clock.  He is sneaky smart and combines great instincts with athletic ability and coordination.  But a nasty streak.... no way.

New deal for Polamalu

I'm obviously a Ravens fan and Ed Reed is my guy - BUT Troy has to be the 2nd name out of my mouth after Reed.

I love this deal because it keeps TP in Pittsburgh and helps keep the Ravens/Steelers Rivalry the best in the NFL.

Okay, I give you a few of the points you made, but the reality is this. Troy Polamalu can be called whatever you find amusing, but the truth is, he will lay your ass out.

New deal for Polamalu

I just got a $829.99 iPad2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an id iot to ever pay full retail prices at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37" HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for. I use Meta Cent. com

I think if the Steelers, an organization who usually allows a player to leave rather than overpay them, feels he is worth the new contract, then he is worth it.  Too many idiots on here think they know football, yet they don't work for a football team in any capacity.  If the people on here "Knew" as much as they say, they would be coaches or GMs.  And that includes the Idiots they have as writers and sports reporters!  I think your "Fantasy Football Leagues" have gone to your heads!
