New deal for Polamalu

Posted on: September 10, 2011 2:42 pm

Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu has signed a new four-year deal, I've confirmed, and with all of the new contracts and extensions signed post-lockout, Polamalu's is one of the most well-earned.

A source with knowledge of the deal said the contract makes Polamalu one of the highest paid defensive players in the league but what this deal represents more than anything is a reward for one of the hardest working and most vicious players the sport has seen. Sure, there are those who believe he's overrated (I'm looking at you Pete Prisco) but he's not.

He's the 21st century Ronnie Lott. That makes him special and this contract is well deserved.

Now, speaking of well deserved, all we need to have is Drew Brees get his deal done.

New deal for Polamalu

People can compare Troy to anyone they want.  It's been done over and over again in he history of sports.  To all of the Steeler haters and know nothings, Troy is certainly not overrated.  He has been a walking injury the past few years but when the guy is healthy he is almost always one of the best 3 players on the field.

You want to point out how he was burned in the Super Bowl?  He absolutely was.  I'm a diehard Steelers fan and it was frustrating to watch but the guy was not 100% and the Steelers had nothing better to throw out there against a Packers passing game that was clicking on all cylinders.

The haters are always going to hate and the Steeler fans are always going to defend.  But people are entitled to their opinion especially on these boards.  Isn't that what they are for?

By the way, Ed Reed is a has been.

Those who call him overrated, check the Steelers with and without him. He may not be as good of a safety as Reed but he is the overall better defender.

New deal for Polamalu

Maybe Packer fans were unaware he was playing injured in the Super Bowl? You know it is hard to run with a bad ankle.

New deal for Polamalu

Haha, i almost spit out my drink when i read the comparison to ronnie lott, that is the biggest joke ive ever heard, lott was one of the best safeties to ever play the game, and unlike Polamalu, he could actually cover a receiver, which, last time i checked is part of a safeties responsibilities, wow, that was a good one!!!  Polamalu is basically an undersized linebacker who never has to cover anyone, he just roams around and hits guys, ask the steelers coaches to name his position, its not safety, its roaver or something like that, but its not hard to make big plays and hits when you dont have any resposibilities

New deal for Polamalu

to the morons that only watch the superbowl and know barely any about football and say troy is overrated......troy was about 70% in the superbowl he was injured if he was 100% the packers would have lost...packers barely won and rogers had to play perfect to win and he did i take nothing away from the packers they deserve it but to say troy is overrated is insane.....i challenge you to watch 4 games that troy is in and you will change your mind quick and he is still only at 80% thats how bad his injury is

New deal for Polamalu

Meanwhile most of the Packers like Greg Jennings that pointed out how Troy Polamalu ran bad routes, was slow, and didn't have a chance at covering/stopping them are laughing somewhere.  Maybe he should lay off the commercials for shampoo and focus on training and working with Dick LeBeau a little more.

Hmmmm, Defensive Player of the Year = overrated? Any team in the NFL would love the have this guy -works hard, plays harder, and is only in the headlines when he makes great plays - not sure why anyone would think TP is overrated - he's in his prime folks, show some love - deserves this contract more than most
