New deal for Polamalu

Posted on: September 10, 2011 2:42 pm

Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu has signed a new four-year deal, I've confirmed, and with all of the new contracts and extensions signed post-lockout, Polamalu's is one of the most well-earned.

A source with knowledge of the deal said the contract makes Polamalu one of the highest paid defensive players in the league but what this deal represents more than anything is a reward for one of the hardest working and most vicious players the sport has seen. Sure, there are those who believe he's overrated (I'm looking at you Pete Prisco) but he's not.

He's the 21st century Ronnie Lott. That makes him special and this contract is well deserved.

Now, speaking of well deserved, all we need to have is Drew Brees get his deal done.

New deal for Polamalu

So a board full of Prisco and Raven fans refuse to admit that Troy is the best, not only does he win games no one is more fun to watch.the strip of Flacco, tackling Chris Johnson behind the line, leaping over the center to disrupt plays. I'm delighted we have four more years of watching Troy wreak havoc, go Steelers.

New deal for Polamalu

SkyHawk09, I have to disagree with you for disagreeing with Freeman for disagreeing with Prisco on Polamalu.

New deal for Polamalu

Freeman, this is one of the few instances where disagreeing with Prisco is wrong. Polamalu is definitely overrated. I'd have to see the deal to know for sure, but it sounds like the Steelers made a rare lapse of judgment.

New deal for Polamalu

I hear Ed Reed doesn't have any need for a jockstrap...if you know what I mean

New deal for Polamalu

That's cause Ed Reed's jock strap is usually on the field when any top rated receiver goes by him - can't believe no love for TP, you are a moron and probably a Ravens fan (same thing anyway) BTW, does Ed reed know how to stop a running play?

New deal for Polamalu

I love his talent, but as he ages, he seems to get nicked up a lot and miss ball games.  I'm not sure he'll be around in 4 yrs.

New deal for Polamalu

The 21st century Ronnie Lott is saying a lot!  He is a very talented and explosive talent.  Troy Polamalu is deserving of getting paid, he plays hard, works as a team, and would never even consider holding out like Chris Johnson.  I'm not sure he's chop his finger off Ronnie Lott style to play football, but he's pretty darn good.  Good to see one of the good guys get rewarded with a huge paycheck.

New deal for Polamalu

He is NOT the 21st century Ronnie Lott.  Sorry, TP is a good player but he couldn't hold Ed Reed's jock strap.

New deal for Polamalu

As much as I hate the guy for the uniform he wears you cant help but respect is talent and drive as a professional athlete. Most athletes are premaddonas and stop attempting to get better once they make it to the pros. This guy does what he has to during the season and in the offseason to be the best at his craft. Troy Polomalu changes the face of the Steeler defense dramatically. He makes the seconday better instantly by his presense. The Steelers do not win or even sniff the Superbowl without him. He is one of the few players that has earned the money that he is given.

New deal for Polamalu

An "overrated" Polamalu still means he's the best safety in the league, and possibly the best defensive back.  Prisco was responding to opinions that Polamalu was the best defensive player in the league bar done (and perhaps the best of the past decade).  So regardless, Troy is still a Hall of Famer and one of the best.
