There's no need to get into whether or not ESPN should have fired Hank Williams, Jr. for comparing the President of the United of the States to a mass murderer who tried to destroy an entire race of people. Nope. No need.

But this is something that needs to be discussed. On his website Williams released this statement: “After reading hundreds of e-mails, I have made MY decision. By pulling my opening Oct 3rd, You (ESPN) stepped on the Toes of The First Amendment. Freedom of Speech, so therefore Me, My Song, and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT OF HERE. It’s been a great run.” -- Hank Williams Jr."

OK, one thing, Hank.

The First Amendment protects speech from government intrusion. As a private entity, ESPN can fire Williams if it desires. Williams has the right to be an idiot and ESPN has a right to fire him.

What's the confusion here?

And there is also this piece of news: the NFL was extremely unhappy with what Williams said and voiced its opinion to ESPN.

Honestly, why is this surprising to anyone? Corporations never want to be associated with individuals who will cost them customers. ESPN's (and the NFL's) decision isn't based on whether Hank Williams was right, wrong or whatever. It was based on the fact that a substantial portion of their viewership (whether that's 20%, 40% or whatever) will be offended, and it'll cost them viewers. There are no First Amendment considerations at all; the First Amendment does not prevent a private corporation from deciding to fire you for saying something that might hurt their business, and it certainly doesn't require them to continue to give you air time.

I can't wait for Mike Freeman's next political article on a sports site, and that will be labeled: "How Herman Cain is an Uncle Tom".

This whole you can have freedom of speech unless you believe what I believe thing is getting old. What you don't realize Mike Freeman is that Barack Obama is a polarizing president. There are those who love worship and adore him on the Democratic side that claim him as a savior and an all knowing being who is flawless and is without sin of any kind (That fits your mindset Mr. Freeman.) There are others however who are on the Republican side who see him as the exact opposite (that goes along with being polarizing). When you are that polarizing. For every strong supporter you have. There is an equally strong person who opposes what you are doing. Same with Sarah Palin (I am not a fan of hers) However, I have heard people say way worse things about her and even going as far as saying terrible things about her son Trig Palin who was born with Down Syndrome. Where was your outrage then Mr. Freeman? None to be seen.

I think the Hitler / Obama analogy is an apt one, but maybe a little too severe. There are several similarities however.

1.) Adolf Hitler and Barack Obama are both known to be great orators

2.) People follow Barack Obama and Adolf Hitler blindly without question

3.) Voter Manipulation. Barack Obama had Acorn and control of the media. Hitler had Joseph Goebbels and control of the media.
4.) Obama's real family name is Soetoro that is never named by the media. Hitler's real family name was Schickelgruber which is never mentioned by the media. So both use aliases.

5.) Obama is leader while the economy is in recession. Hitler was leader while the economy was in recession.

6.) Both Hitler and Obama were community organizers.

7.) Obama wrote 2 books: Dreams Of My Father and The Audacity Of Hope. Hitler Writes two books: Mein Kampf and A New World Order.
