I wrote after the Jets-Patriots game, after Derrick Mason was basically benched, the Jets would either keep benching Mason or cut him altogether. I didn't mention the other option: a trade.

I've confirmed a Houston Chronicle report that Mason was traded from the Jets to Houston. I've been told it's a low round pick. The newspaper reported it was a conditional pick.

This move has some interesting ramifications:

1. Is Andre Johnson's hamstring healing slower than expected? Or are the Texans simply looking for more depth? Maybe it's a combination of the two.

2. Rex Ryan is making a statement to his team. And I don't care if he says publicly Mason was benched to get other players reps. No way. Mason was sent packing because he publicly complained about the offense.

3. Mason is actually in a better place. He goes to an offense light years ahead of New York's.

4. Mason may have failed with the Jets but I get the feeling he'll do pretty well with the Texans.

Wow Rev, Where to begin???

Danny Woodhead = It was him or Joe McKnight, I liked Woodhead but I am pretty certain we made the right choice here
Shaun Ellis = Would not take the salary we offered got a better deal from the Patriots so he went. Bottom line he did nothing in any of the games except against the Patriots he is at the end of his career. It is unfortunate BT was injured or you would never know he is gone. The rookie already has outplayed him and now Westerman is stepping up
Plaxico Burress = Whats wrong with a 6-5 reciever? Yes he had a couple of drops last game but other than that he has been solid. Personally I would of kept Edwards but Plax is no sloutch infact much of the time he is doubled.
LaDainian= Without him last year we do not make the playoffs. He is a solid 3rd down back that still causes tough matchups out of the backfield when a linebacker has to cover him.
Brad Smith??? Really ?? What have we lost ? Have you even heard anything about him in Buffalo? How many catches did he have for us? Joe McKnight has taken his place and we have not missed a beat.
David Clowney= Sorry but I think he maybe out of football, I know he was cut by one team already
J Cotchery= Class act and terrific 3RD option at best. Other than that coming off a terrible injury, again have ya heard anything about him ?
J Vilma = I believbe we traded him to get the pick that brought us David Harris
Jason Taylor = Came in cheap and lead the team in sacks that year
Vernon Gholston = Total Bust - no argument there. You can look at every other team in the league and they all had them at one time or another.

I agree Rex should shut up and for the most part he has toned it down. Now it is your turn to shut the hell up You are clueless.

The jests? How creative...

Letting Brad Smith go was the right move. In case someone without a brain such as yourself has failed to notice, Buffalo way overpaid for him (or maybe you hadn't bothered to look at his lack of stats this season), and we have someone who is fits right in at returner in McKnight. Brad Smith came in for the occasional offensive play. He wasn't worth the $4 million a year to beat out Buffalo just to have him play a half-dozen downs a game.

If you meant to say letting Cotchery go was a big mistake, then you might not sound as ignorant. He was cut to get Mason on the roster and Mason is old. Maybe if this was 5 years ago getting Mason was smart, but not now. He's even retired and changed his mind, so he may still have it, but he's on his way out of the league before long.

This sucks for two reasons:

I actually like Houston
I can't stand the JESTS.

Perhaps the best move Fatasaurus Rex has made all season........of course, still only a matter of time till the implosion led by the other 2 malcontent WR's takes place.

Somebody else mentioned it. Letting Brad Smith walk was a terrible terrible mis-calculation for the Jests.

Good "Moves," Jets, and SHUT UP REX!

Could someone tell me why picking up Mason was better than simply resigning Brad Smith?  How about David Clowney?  Cotchery?  I guess having Drrick Mason for 5 games definitely makes up for the sting of losing those team players who brought you so much success.

While we are talking about bad moves made by the Jets, Danny Woodhead, Shaun Ellis, Plaxico Burress, LaDainian Tomlinson, Jason Taylor, Jonathan Vilma, Vernon Gholston, etc, etc, etc.

Instead of building a proper team, drafting from the lines out (somthing that Mangini was doing), the Jets jettison (get it?) their role payers that fought hard on every down for every yard and bring in aging, declining prima donnas to play their brand of "give me my win and money without much effort from me."

Rex:  SHUT UP and start coaching.  The Jets hierarchy should put a gag order on you for news conferences.  Talk is cheap, something that your father never figured out.  He won a Super Bowl as a defensive coordintor, and then basically had a few good seasons before leaving the NFL for good.  How'd that Arizona gig go?  Rex....SHUT UP!

Other then the facts that Mason is old and slow and can't catch, this was a good deal for the....Jets.

It was only two months ago Jets thought this guy would florish.  Just another loser on that 2-3 team.

Since the Texans are without WR Andre Johnson and now defensive specialist Mario Williams, it only makes sense, they would make a move. Although I don't see former Jets WR Derrick Mason filling the void left by Andre Johnson. I'm actually surprised the Texans didn't try and take a shot at Randy Moss, who if nothing else, would keep defenses honest. Now the Texans get to play against the Ravens, who are going to be nasty after a bye week. Tough road game for Houston.

I guess now we'll see if the Texans are contenders or pretenders in the AFC South...
