I wrote after the Jets-Patriots game, after Derrick Mason was basically benched, the Jets would either keep benching Mason or cut him altogether. I didn't mention the other option: a trade.

I've confirmed a Houston Chronicle report that Mason was traded from the Jets to Houston. I've been told it's a low round pick. The newspaper reported it was a conditional pick.

This move has some interesting ramifications:

1. Is Andre Johnson's hamstring healing slower than expected? Or are the Texans simply looking for more depth? Maybe it's a combination of the two.

2. Rex Ryan is making a statement to his team. And I don't care if he says publicly Mason was benched to get other players reps. No way. Mason was sent packing because he publicly complained about the offense.

3. Mason is actually in a better place. He goes to an offense light years ahead of New York's.

4. Mason may have failed with the Jets but I get the feeling he'll do pretty well with the Texans.

I thought it was very telling when the Jets played Mason's former team Baltimore and how the defenders were jawing and really going hard after Mason as was he against them.  Seems like he left the organization with hard feelings on both sides.  My guess is he's a pretty selfish player.  I've heard that he and Flacco almost came to blows or did.

Doesnt really matter who Houston gets on their team. They always find a way to lose. They are a .500 team at best and thats all they will ever be...LOSERS !!!!

Mason had many good years with Tennessee and Baltimore.  But he has always had a loud mouth.  Rex knew this all to well, so the "sending an example theory" just doesn't make any sense (Rex himself is not soft spoken), he knew exactly what he was getting when Mason came on board.  I would guess when your team starts out so pathetic you have to start wacking somewhere, so start with the old guys if you can find someone who will take them.

Maybe the Jets should have asked for one of Houston's 174 TE's in return, preferably their best blocker (Casey?)... they sure could use more help up front!

Derrick Mason cut by Rex Ryan of the Jets. This is funny Houston gives up a conditional pick. The Texans might have got the better part of this deal. Mason is going to a well balanced team where the quarterback at least makes his passes count.

what do you need speed for when your qb is garbage?  the slow old men fit in perfectly for sanchez cause all he knows how to do is dump it to l.t. or his tightend.  when are you going to realize mark sanchez is absolute hype and sucks the fat one?

do you watch football?  mason a cancer?  if you looked up his stats, then how does he seem like an "anemic old man that has never really had major production?"  do you know how to read stats?  8 years of 1000+ yards and a few years of 90+ receptions.  does that not equate to production in your warped world?  even in his later years, he's gotten over 1000 yards recieving 3 out of the last 5 years.  he got dumped because he was talking the truth about the patheticness of the jet's offense.  he is at the end of the road closing in on 1000 receptions and over 12000 yards in his career.  yeah, "anemic" is a great way to describe him you idiot.

Mason was dead right. Schottenheimer's plays are complicated and confusing. He needs to call quick and agressive plays that give Sanchez more options.
But those plays require faster, stronger younger WR's......so bye bye Mason

I think they just confirmed in this last game that jones isnt worth anything and they need a better #2 then him. A more consistent WR who can step in if johnson is out longer and jones has prooved over the last 2 years that he cant.
