The Daily Shoutout: I like Mark Sanchez

OPENING HIT: Yes, I like Mark Sanchez. Not that there's anything wrong with that. And it seems like I'm increasingly the only one. I know Sanchez isn't Joe Montana but I don't get all of the extreme criticism. I think Sanchez is solid, has a decent learning curve, and is a good leader. I do wish he'd stop doing model shoots but I'm not going to hold his pretty boy-ness against him.

Bottom line: some of the criticism of him is a little off base. In all seriousness, some of what's happening with Sanchez is because of where he plays. There's a sort of reverse East Coast bias at work. If Sanchez played in Kansas City, we wouldn't be hearing how he hasn't improved since his rookie year. But he plays in New York so the criticism and harshness is more poignant. There's more media covering him and more media types on the East Coast covering him and the fact he went to a big-time program like USC also factors in. He's one of the most scrutinized young players in the sport.

(Not to mention he has Joe Namath commenting on his play on freaking Twitter.)

He's had shuffling receiver corps, revamped offensive lines and an assistant coaching staff that at times isn't all that good.

Is Sanchez great? No. But let's stop acting he's like Tim Tebow. He's got real non-gimmicky skill. He'll come along in time.

Now about those model shoots...

c'mon please Tebow was flat awful last night except for the winning drive and the first drive. He couldn't hit the side of a barn with a pass more than 1 out of 10 times. He is not an NFL style QB. The Donks won in spite of Tebow and it was a testament to the good play of their Defense (and particularly their special teams) and the ineptness of the Jest offense. I think most of the problem with the Jest offense is on Brian Schottenheimer mainly because IMHO Mark Sanchez has regressed every year. Don't get me wrong he's no superstar but he is good enough in the right system I think. I also give Denvers coaching staff 2 thumbs up for working to their strengths and figuring out how to win games with a bad set of skill players. Last night reminded me a lot of replacement football and the adaptable coaches figured out a way to win. These guys play road games every week. Just keep the score close and hope to pull it out at the end.

mark sanchez isnt even mark rypien. sanchez will NEVER be a quality QB with schottenheimer as the OC. after schottenheimer gets canned sanchez still wont be quality, but he will be barely average.

The Daily Shoutout: I like Mark Sanchez

As I read through the responds and the initial trash written by Mr. Freeman, a couple of things became evident: 1st - Mr. Freeman all you are doing is making excuses for why Sanchez has not done well or at least percieved as doing well. (example 1): "There's a sort of reverse East Coast bias at work. If Sanchez played in Kansas City, we wouldn't be hearing how he hasn't improved since his rookie year"...Seriously? If Sanchez played in Kansas City I think things would be worse for him. Why? First and foremost he would not have the defense to cover up some of his mistakes. Look at some of the games they have won this year (mainly the cowboys) The defense got them that win. If Sanchez played in Kansas City I dont think he would come anywhere close to the great 45-45 record (check me on that) he has now. He would not have any playoff wins, and honestly I dont think he would still have a starting job by now. I think being in New York has actually worked in his favor. The Jets are trying to prove he is a good QB, and continue to him build up as the next coming of Joe Namath. They continue to give him all the opportunities, and continue to build around him. 2nd - Contrary to Mr. Freeman statement of "He's had shuffling receiver corps, revamped offensive lines and an assistant coaching staff that at times isn't all that good" The Jets have a solid receiver corp (plax has look solid after 2 years in prison, Holmes can be impressive when he has a properly thrown ball, and Keller is good TE). His offense line can not be to blame as well, he has one of the best center in the game, and although the guys to his right and left arent great, they can get the job done. The issue here is that Sanchez has no pokcet presences, and the Jets refuse t revert to the running game (in an attempt to prove Sanchez is a brady, or rogers) How did the jet do when they ran? How did Sanchez look when they ran? in both cases they looked better. Listen you know your QB is bad when the offensive Coordinator refuses to throw the ball longer then 15 years. That is laughable, Sanchez is becoming more laughable with each game he plays. The jets should of sucked, and went after Luck

It is good that you like him Mr. freeman, but honeslty after reading some of the other crap you have posted, your opinion does not hold much weight. And by the way, did Tebow beat Sanchez last night? did tebow throw a pick that was taken to the house for the second straight week in a row? Im not a big fan of Tebow but you need to let this one go Mr. Freeman

Well let's see, I think the score of the Jets game was Denver 17 Jets 13. I think the winning score was because of a 20 yard running play by Tim Tebow, himself. Be careful you might have to eat more of your words as the season moves on and with Tim Tebow.
I love it when a role model is a good kid and will do much more to help the image of football. It is a shame and disgrace that you and others have to put people down to better themselves in the light of others. Tim Tebow is not going anywhere, and it looks like you are going have possibly eat crow, I hope you like feathers and all.
Have a good day blessed day.

I actually liked the comments until the last 2 lines.
Freeman - you are telling people to hold off judgement until Sanchez has time to develop. Then you throw Tebow in the mix?
Afraid to stand by your own assessment? Need a few responses as you can't produce a solid thought blog that would produce debate...
Hope the people that sign your check move on and bring us a person that takes ownership of what they write.

Your like the many writters the past three years telling us how bad a politician is doing ... but... look what George Bush did...

Weak ending and disappointing!

First off, this is not an article about Teabow.
Now, on to Sanchez. He's nothing more than an average QB, that shrinks everytime the defense doesn't tee it up for him. He is below average in terms of passing pecentage, yards per pass, interceptions. But it's really not even the stats. He has a very good pass recieving TE. 2 very good WR's, a pretty good offensive line, and what is the result. 5-4? I've never seen him win a shootout. I've never seen him put that team on his back. You say he's a good leader. Good leaders not only get the players on the same page, but go out and actually get better in their third year. He has limited talent. Will he get better? Possibly, but not that much better.

ilovemykids:  One more thing, the only reason why most of your morons love this asshole, is because of this "close personal relationship", with the Baby Jesus! Keep your religion to yourself!

I'm curious to know what makes Tebow and asshole, as you put it.  Please, share your deep, grounded insight on Tim Tebow.
The world would be better off if folks kept their hate for religion to themselves.

(I'm sorry you were allowed to have kids.)

Sanchez is the only reason the Jets have not won or been to a Super Bowl.  He is average to below average and shows no signs of improving.  If anything he has leveled off (some will argue he has gotten worse)...at best.

Pete Carroll was right on when he said that Sanchez was not ready for the NFL when he came out early. Another year of college would have helped him in the long run.
