The Daily Shoutout: I like Mark Sanchez

OPENING HIT: Yes, I like Mark Sanchez. Not that there's anything wrong with that. And it seems like I'm increasingly the only one. I know Sanchez isn't Joe Montana but I don't get all of the extreme criticism. I think Sanchez is solid, has a decent learning curve, and is a good leader. I do wish he'd stop doing model shoots but I'm not going to hold his pretty boy-ness against him.

Bottom line: some of the criticism of him is a little off base. In all seriousness, some of what's happening with Sanchez is because of where he plays. There's a sort of reverse East Coast bias at work. If Sanchez played in Kansas City, we wouldn't be hearing how he hasn't improved since his rookie year. But he plays in New York so the criticism and harshness is more poignant. There's more media covering him and more media types on the East Coast covering him and the fact he went to a big-time program like USC also factors in. He's one of the most scrutinized young players in the sport.

(Not to mention he has Joe Namath commenting on his play on freaking Twitter.)

He's had shuffling receiver corps, revamped offensive lines and an assistant coaching staff that at times isn't all that good.

Is Sanchez great? No. But let's stop acting he's like Tim Tebow. He's got real non-gimmicky skill. He'll come along in time.

Now about those model shoots...

Nice angle shot at Tebow.

What people need to know is Denver was 4-14 in Orton's last 18 starts dating to the beginning of 2010.  They were the second worst team in the league and had the #2 draft pick to prove it.  So the Tebow critics said, let's see if he can win, as if he was stepping in for Aaron Rogers instead of on a team that could do nothing right and just gave away last year's leading WR.  Well, he has won, took over a team that was 1-4 with Orton and is 3-1 with Tebow.  That's better than about anybody but Rogers in the last four weeks.

He has 6 TD passes and 1 INT in that span.  Who's better than 6 to 1 besides Rogers?  Now the critics are saying if he doesn't take Denver to the playoffs, they will have been right.  Really?  Do they expect Cam Newton to take Carolina to the playoffs?

So , I wonder why Denever has gone 3-1 with Tebow ...He is obv doing something right...The fact is Tebow could lead his team to 16-0 and people. Tebow bashers, would still talk smack....The bias is disgusting. Is he Peyton Manning? No....but isnt it the goal of teams to win and if you have a guy who wins then why is it so bad....Lay off the kid....Its not his fault the media builds people up and breaks them down in the same thought. You media types are just plain ignorant...You are the ones who keep him in the news daily and then complain taht he is so overrated. Well, he is "overrated " or thought of that way bc of all the media on him, he didnt ask for all the stories, he just wants to play football... If you dont like him, stop talking about him....Regardless, hell continue to win and Freeman will continue to play up people like Vick while bashing people like Tebow...Is Vick winning?? 3-6 ?? really??  Tebow is 3-1 ...eat it Freeman you racist chode

A good running game makes an average QB look great (if they can actually quarterback). The Jets have a sorry running game. Period. If they had a better running game we wouldn't be having these conversations about Sanchez. But they don't. While I love Ladanian in a non-homo way, he's not a fit in NJ. Shone Green is not their answer. They would be wise to trade for a proven runner before ditching Sanchez.

If Sanchez were playing in Baltimore, they'd be a the top of their division instead of smelling everyone's butts.

Tebow is all hype, but the Jets will NEVER win a Super Bowl with Sanchez starting.  The Jets have been building a championship team for 40+ years!  When will they ever get serious about their QB choices?  They're always either too young, too old or lacking a supporting cast.  I can't believe I'm still a fan...go Jets.

If Tebow has such great talent, but can't throw, why don't they find another position for him?

Here's the problem with Sanchez so far - he has an inability to pick up the second defender (usually the safety) coming into the play. This prohibits him from having success throwing the ball down the field. You can't succeed on a regular basis as an NFL quarterback by only making short passes. There's still a possibility he will improve in that area, but if it doesn't happen this year or next, the Jets will have to start thinking about the next candidate.

Any endorsement of Sanchez by Freeman, will probaly doom him to failure

love the way ole' mikey tries to get a rip in on Tebow....must be frustrating

" No. But let's stop acting he's like . He's got real non-gimmicky skill."

Here's another great "factual statement about Tebow he made 3 weeks ago;

" This is about facts: Tim Tebow isn't an NFL quarterback. Not yet, at least, and if he starts this week -- and I've spoken to a source on the team who confirmed the coaching staff has informed players on the  it will likely be Tebow -- it will be officially the beginning of the end of Tebow."
