The Daily Shoutout: Tebow time

OPENING HIT: This is the biggest test yet for the league's latest infatuation, Tim Tebow, who can't play a lick of quarterback but somehow has become the most talked about quarterback in football not named Aaron Rodgers.

Check that. Tebow has become an even bigger phenom than Rodgers.

And Thursday night will be his biggest test because despite the Jets playing on a short week, they are going to bring the heat to Tebow. There will be no taking him lightly. There will be no overlooking. Tebow is going to face the full wrath of a talented defense -- not great defense, but talented -- that is irritated from being humiliated by the Patriots. They're going to be ornery.

What the Jets will do: put their corners man up on Denver receivers -- since Tebow has no accuracy they won't get beat -- and crash the line with bodies to stop Tebow running. It's simple.

The biggest test yet, indeed. And Tebow is going to fail it.

Sorry Tim.

TOMLINSON:
I continue to hear LaDainian Tomlinson is strongly considering retiring after this season. I'm not 100 percent on this but it would shock no one close to him. The day he retires the clock begins to tick on him entering the Hall of Fame.

I sincerely hope you are wrong. I really haven't followed him.this year but I think he is such an outstanding young man in many ways. The one quality that has impressed me the most is his faithfulness to GOD. He can be a great leader teaching the younger players coming up that it is ok to be a spiritual person and a professional at the same time. My father sent me story about Tim's mother and the difficulty she had during her pregnancy. If you google Pam Tebow or Tim Tebow's mother. You may be able to find it. God Bless

The Daily Shoutout: Tebow time

It is amazing that so many sportswriters concentrate on explaining away the accomplishments of an unconventional winner.

So what if many of his fans are religious. Should we start rating a player on the basis of his fans? I have no problem with a religious man who wins in the NFL by playing "college-style" (as opposed to "NFL-style").

Anyway, as far as I know, "No team succeeds playing that way in the NFL" is not itself a rule in the NFL. Sometimes the NFL sees new wrinkles, even if temporary.

Why not enjoy it? Why is there an edge to almost all statements made by the sports media concerning Tebow? In the end, fans have a sense of fair play, and we apply that criterion to the sports media.

Why are writers afraid to say anything genuinely good about a man without qualifying it. It is as if they are all terrified that they might be identified with a religious, unconventional winner.  Will they be fired, lose friends, be fined for it?

Who are they afraid of offending?

The only thing I can think of is the fact that he dared to be pro-life and say so. Funny how that gets people hating.

I am enjoying this. Please write another bulletin-board-worthy article. Tim won't take offense. Probably won't read it. But it'll make his team mad. They'll keep the score low for him, and Tim will have yet another chance to show that football doesn't have to be mean-spirited.

Ouch, Mr. Freeman...  Ouch.  I am absolutely NOT on the Tim Tebow bandwagon, but I have been fortunate enough to  stand back and WAIT TO SEE IF HE's A FAILURE, before deeming him one... Again and again and again...  Fluke win, after fluke win... after... er... "fluke" win...  and uh, one more "fluke"...

*sigh*

Seriously...  How the _____ does he do this?

I'm gonna have to reconsider some things if he keep saying "Jesus knows who He wants to win" and Denver keeps winning, 'cause I still can't believe it's because of Tebow's abilities.

But again, thank God I don't have the gall to come out publicly week after week and say he's gonna fail... Only to watch him NOT fail.

Feel bad for ya, Freeman.  Maybe write about something else next week.  (I did see your later admission, by the way... Nice touch.)

Raise a a black glove on the winners stand and you will eventually be cited for your heroism

Refuse to report for the draft and you will be honored as a man of conscious

Refuse to stand for the national anthem and one day you will be heralded ironically for taking a stand for what you believe

But dare to be a likable, decent man of Christian faith in this country who pays silent respect on the sidelines to the one he believes is due thanks.....dare to have game skills that are unconventional.....dare to speak your mind and actually act on what you believe.....and you will be mocked, ridiculed  and labeled...what is the term now...Tebowing?

I am not a Denver junkie, I am not a bible thumper, I am not a fanatic...I am a fair minded man of Christian decent....and I am thoroughly enjoying what Tebow is doing on the field right now. Without saying one word in his defense, he is saying it all. And he is exposing all. All of the intolerence and hatred that still exists in this so-called- progressive- society of ours.

And he is going 95 yards...of which he accounted for 92..... in two minutes......and making professionals on a decent defense miss him.....time after time after time after time.

For two glorious minutes........ and I realize there may not be that many more minutes like that.......but for two glorious minutes.....it was hard not to "miss" him. Not to get him. Not to cheer for him. If not to admire him, to at least respect him.

And for two minutes.......He shut all of you up!

As the commercial says....priceless!!!!!

I told you Freeman.  The Broncos defense played a terrific game, and Mark Sanchez is going to piss blood all week after that kidney shot.  Von Miller is not just the defensive rookie of the year, and a pro bowl player, but he's playing at an all-pro level.  The best SAM linebacker in the game.  Add in a healthy Dumervil and you can see why the Brocnos are winning.  They play great defense, keep it close and give Tebow a shot to win it at the end.  And he does.

You can talk about Tebow's terrible completion percentage, and the odd looking balls he throws, but what he does not do is turn the ball over.  Plain and simple.  He plays smart, and knows the offense better than he's given credit for.

The title of your article is the Jets are going to bring the heat.  Tebow is not passing the ball enough to bring the heat in the last three weeks.

Here's a suggestion for your next article: is Darelle Revis the best defensive player in football?  No.  He was worthless in tonight's game.  Rendered Mr. Irrelevant.  How about that ole on Tebow on that last drive?  Champ may not be as good in coverage as Revis, but at least he can tackle.

You can join the Prisco and Company party line, but it leads to this...how's the crow tasting?

Now, what were you saying about the Jets and their defense? Or Tebow's INabilities? "can't play a lick of quarterback", wasn't it? Hey, he's a lousy fantasy pick...but real games are decided by the scoreboard, not somebody's stats. If stats and fantasy numbers were what mattered, Marino'd have about 7 Super Bowl Rings, not 0.

Tebow's not doing it solo, but the whole Bronco team is playing better, smarter, and more aggressively with him in there.

They're 4 and 1 with him.

And you know what? I have never liked Tebow much, either, but man...he just wins, doesn't he?

Wow, at least all the people who predicted the Eagles would be awesom took 8 weeks to learn how wrong they were.  The guy who wrote this article had just a few hours.  New record!  Jets just got TEBOWED!
