Don't expect huge Suh punishment

Ndamukong Suh has apologized for his turkey day stupidity. It's a good start. Though he needs to apologize to the man who's body he attacked like it was a wing minus the stuffing.

But there is something bigger than his apology. It is this: if you expect a lengthy, hard punishment for Suh, you might be disappointed. I could be wrong but numerous signs point to Suh getting no more than a fine and one-game suspension.

Here's why. Aside from the notorious Albert Haynesworth head stomp, there hasn't been more than a one-game suspension for on-field violations in the Roger Goodell years, and Suh was tossed for the second half of the game, so that should tell you something.

Again: Goodell has not issued lengthy suspensions for on-field infractions. It just has not been his way. That could change with this but it seems unlikely.

During the Goodell administration, there have been the following suspensions for on-field violations:

2006:
Haynesworth – five games.

2007:
Roy Williams--one game (after third illegal horse collar tackle of season).

2008:
Elbert Mack--one game (launched helmet-to-helmet against Matt Ryan on interception; second flagrant hit in three games). And Eric Smith, one game suspension plus a $50,000 fine (flagrant helmet-to-helmet hit on Anquan Boldin).

2009:
Dante Wesley--one game (launch and hit Tampa’s Clifton Smith in head with shoulder and forearm before he had touched ball).

In 2010, there were no suspensions.

So, see the pattern there? Goodell seems to draw a distinction between off-field bad behavior and on it. Again, he could change course, but it seems like Suh will miss a maximum of one game.

LOSERS!  Forget about Betty Suh...the Lions blow anyway.  You just dropped 4 of 6 behind the stellar play of Mary PICKford!  Come on...did you see that guy after each pick against the Bears?  What a wuss... Lions fans cry cry cry all day long.  You are cellar dwellars and will never change...good luck on New Years day...maybe the Pack will have no. 1 seed locked up and will lay down so you can get that 8-8 record...ooohh.

Don't expect huge Suh punishment

As a former soldier, drinkin' and fightin' on a Friday or Saturday night was a good way to relieve stress. In hockey, guys drop the gloves when they've had enough of each other or someone needs to be taught a lesson.  Teststosterone  (forgive my spelling) is a powerful force when combined with brute strength and competitive fire.  If a coupla guys wanna bang on each other after pushing and pulling on each other and reaching a frustration point, let 'em.  They've got helmets on, any fool knows you shouldn't hit a guy even without a helmet in the head with your fist.  But the stomp, now that's different.  Only a vicious, mean, out-of-control a-hole who really wants to not just hurt, but injure another person goes over that line.  Mr. Albert H (not one of my favorites, anyway) should have been tossed for a lot longer than he was, and Mr. Suh should spend some time watching from the sidelines.  Perhaps his team struggling without him will give him a little hint that such behavior is not acceptable, as well.

Why wasn't Woodson kicked out of the Saint game for punching a player ? When you look at how refs call games for the Packers, it's easy to see why.

He'll get one game OR less.  It's clearly evident that it was a retaliation move.  Still wrong, but not as bad as everyone is making it out.

There better be a HUGE punishment. Freeman, your analogy is stupid. I guess if I go shoot someone but say I'm sorry, that should lighten the punishment. This guy needs to be stopped once and fort all. What a thug!
