The Daily Shoutout: Giants will make run

Posted on: December 5, 2011 9:45 am

OPENING HIT: You can see it coming. The run. No, the Giants aren't great, but look at this conference, look at this league, and then look at this team's history. No, a run is coming.

The Giants have four games remaining, two against Dallas, then Washington and the Jets. All tough games but all games that can be won. The Cowboys are unreliable and have an unprepared head coach who got a job he wasn't ready for. The Redskins are terrible and the Jets are beatable. I think the Jets will be the Giants' toughest game and that's a non-conference one.

Around them, everyone stinks, except the Packers and 49ers, and they've captured their divisions so they aren't a factor. The Bears are done. The Eagles are done. The Lions are going to penalize themselves out of the playoff picture. The Falcons are hard to predict. Parts of the NFC are falling apart, a gap is being created because so many teams are average, bad or putrid. The Giants are the team to step into that gap.

If the Giants collapse in the second half, again, it's a good bet Tom Coughlin loses his job, and I think he knows this, and that factors into all of this. Coughlin is a great coach -- a great one -- and a fighter and I'd take him over almost any of these other jabronis like Jason Garrett who iced his own damn kicker.

And we all know the Giants are capable of making a run. See: Patriots, Super Bowl, almost undefeated season.

But Coughlin's Giants teams have also atomized at the end of a season so there is that possibility. But I don't see it this time.

Because the teams around them are in even worse shape.

The Daily Shoutout: Giants will make run

The Cowboys" wins are mostly by the skin of their teeth and against losing teams.
As opposed to? You might want to take a hard look at the Giants schedule so far. The two schedules are very similar so if you're going to use that as a reason for the Cowboys demise you should use the same theory against the Giants.

The Daily Shoutout: Giants will make run

The Giants have plenty of holes, but they can score points and have shown a pass rush occasionally. The Skins and Eagles are done. The Cowboys" wins are mostly by the skin of their teeth and against losing teams. The Giants will beat the Cowboys both games and end up in the playoffs.Played both the Pats and Packers well and should be able to finnish this year.

Giants Road to the Playoffs is a tough one

Notwithstanding the fact that their D can't stop anything and falters down the stretch when it counts, they essentially need to beat the Cowboys twice and beat either the 'Skins or Jets (preferably the Skins and hopefully both) because they do horrible in tiebreaker scenarios.

They have beaten three teams in the AFC East so far, so that means their NFC conference record (3-6) is worse than their competitors.  They probably lose wildcard tiebreakers to the Bears, Lions and Falcons all who are already a game up on the Giants.

Their division tiebreakers (currently, they are 1-2 in the Division) aren't much better, with losses already to the Redskins and Eagles.  Another division loss to the Cowboys means that the 'Boys will own this tiebreaker also.

Win the next four and they win the division.  Two wins over the 'Boys plus one more win gets them to 9-7, which would also be the 'Boys best possible record and the Giants would own the tiebreaker over the Cowboys based on head-to-head.

and then look at this team's history
You mean having an absolutely horrible defense and missing the playoffs the past 2 years, that history? Freeman, this Giants team has faltered down the stretch the past 2 years, this year won't be any different. The defense. Can't. Stop. ANYONE.

Where are the Saints in the NFC outlook Freeman?  They might be the team that plays your Giants first round of the playoffs and knocks them out for good to end their "run" that you're talking about if SF and GB get the byes. Way to exclude them from the article altogether.

Driver pushed off? are you on LSD? the defensive back instigated the contact and went to push driver out of the endzone. And that pass interference call was legit, Amukamara was holding back Jennings right hand. it's clear as day. There were questionable calls to be sure, (on both sides) but to pick those two to complain about shows that you know absolutely nothing.

The Daily Shoutout: Giants will make run

I'm actually thrilled about this article. If Freeman says they are going to make a run for it then by all means you can bet the farm that the Giants will collapse and blow the end of the season.

If only a more objective r e f crew were in place, the Giants would have won. Driver clearly pushed off on 2nd TD, Prince did not even touch the man he "interfered" with, etc etc etc. Watching GB this year is like watching "professional" wrestling.

The Daily Shoutout: Giants will make run

As a COWBOYS FAN i am not disagreeing with u HOWEVER u talk like ur an expert the GIANTS aren't exactly perfect either they have been very INCONSISTENT & their record proves this! They are just about the same INCONSISTENT TEAM as the COWBOYS and the only reason i am comparing the GIANTS w/the COWBOYS is b/c both are the FRONT RUNNERS in the NFC EAST DIVISION they also should've have WON games they LOST so lets not RULE out any TEAM just yet. I'm also not saying that the COWBOYS will WIN the NFC EAST we'll just have to wait & see throughout the 4 remaining games!
