Harrison likely fined, not suspended

Multiple NFL sources say Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison will likely receive a hefty fine but not be suspended.

This could always change -- these things are never set in stone -- but there are strong indications from a variety of sources that Harrison is due for a fine that could be extremely significant, I'm told. Considering Harrison's history it would not be shocking if the fine approached six figures.

Harrison's hit on Cleveland quarterback Colt McCoy was crown to crown, but McCoy lowering his head beforehand helps Harrison's case, I'm told. But with Harrison's history, and the fact he struck McCoy with crown of his helmet, will lead to a significant fine.

DZperson,
Congratulations on being a parent! Your son or daughter should be proud of you as you result to personal attacks rather than intelligently discuss the issue at hand.  I am perplexed, coach, how you are able to differentiate between spearing, leading with the helmet and just trying to make a play. The problem with fans like you is that you believe such plays are clearly defined and somehow you "know" the intention of the player.  Things do not always appear as they seem. Please watch the hit Gocong put on Mendenhall during the goal line stand. What exactly do you call that. Or are we just worried about qb's? Should we not be concerned about the well being of all players or just glorified qb's. Football is not a sport for the faint of heart regradless how controlled you want to make it.

Yo Bag......is that like in Bag Of Hot Air.......love to put that hit on your stupid ass and see what you say then.  Actually football games can be won without cheap shots.....other teams do it all the time.

Correct, I never played pro football as you Drink...., but, I am a parent and if that was MY son, I would be "rather upset" !!!    Colt was running with the ball and should be treated as any other runner - no red or pink jersey's.. - BUT, Harrison does not know how to play the game either.   As a coach, THAT is what I had coached for 15+ years !!!     NEVER spearing with the head !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who cares what team he plays for, he's a low IQ cheap shot artist hoo ha. Wonder if he'll cry and bang his rattle and threaten to retire again. Please do. No one cares. Try your sucker punching bs against someone like a Brandon Jacobs type who actually sees you coming and we'll see how much further your donkey kicked eyes cross.

Awesome post, gttr440... let's do that and put a RED jersey on all QB's and make them have to throw the ball away if they can't find an open receiver. It's a shame you can't tackle a QB who is running out of the pocket.

You really need to review the hit Gocong put on Mendenhall during the goal line stand. It is called football. Is a running back a second class player? Stop treating the quarterbacks like pansey's. Maybe we should put a red shirt on them and play two hand touch. Colt tucked the ball out of the pocket and was running. Period.  In this instance Colt should be considered a runner. No way any defender can hold up during live play because your precious quarterback sensed he would get destroyed and through the ball. You are asking the impossible.

Fundamentally, physiologically, the propper way to tackle is using the area from your chest to your facemask. Those of you who think its with your shoulders need to go back to the 1920s with tackling dummies into piles of sawdust. That leads to missed tackles, stingers and broken collar bones. The issue then becomes the height of an offensive player that alters before contact (player ducks to take the hit better) the offensive player is creating contact to the head. Rarely do these defensive players lead with the crown.
Apparently Czar Roger wants all passing records to be made irrelavent and all defensive players to break their collarbones.
