Gruden returning to coaching?

Jon Gruden is leaning towards returning to coaching, two sources close to the situation confirmed to me.

The San Diego Union-Tribune first reported that Gruden had decided to return to coaching next season.

However, two sources said late Monday night that while Gruden is indeed leaning towards returning, it's not certain. But some of this might be semantics. I'm told Gruden wants to see what positions he could possibly get before making a 100 percent final decision and that he hasn't officially made one yet because of the uncertainty.

(I was also told Gruden didn't expect this news to get out so soon.)

But again, semantics. He wants to come back. That's the important part of this story. And while I fully expect Gruden to issue a statement with some sort of non-denial/denial saying he's happy at ESPN, he's eyeing a return.

Gruden wants to coach again as soon as possible. That part is fact.

"He's ready to leave television," said one source, "but only if the right job is out there."

And that job, as the Union-Tribune reported, could be the St. Louis Rams.

Gruden returning to coaching?

"two sources close to the situation"

"two sources"

"I'm told"

"I was also told"

"said one source"

Sources close to the situation have confirmed to me that Freeman is an awful writer.  I fully expect him to be fired some time in the future.  I'm told, however, that he may get a job somewhere else.  As an unrelated news agency reported, that job very well may be with a toothbrush warehouse or a freelance janitorial company.

If I'm Chucky, I go to San Diego.  I'm a Raiders fan so that would not be good for the Raiders, but you have a Pro-Bowl level QB, one of the top 5 TE?WR combo's in the league, two solid running backs, and some talented studs on Defense.  Norv Turner HAS TO BE FIRED!!  There is no way a team with that much talent should be underachieving like that.  Chucky would be the perfect guy to come in there, light a fire under their asses and get them playing like the team they should be!

Also you guys need to lay off being mean to Freeman.  I'm not sure if there is another writer in all of sports with more "unnamed sources" then Freeman.  Do you guys have any idea how long it must have taken him to build this brilliant empire of "unnamed sources"?  I mean his "unnamed sources" help give him info for almost every article he writes.  Gotta give a guy props when he puts in that type of time, and hard work.

you are not paying attention he was fired by the raiders and he beat his old team in the super bowl. dungy wasn't fired he quit or retired please get your facts straight.
Gruden was not fired by Oakland, he was traded to Tampa Bay, who had indeed fired Tony Dungy.  I'm not sure who you are saying isn't paying attention, but conceivably it could be the mirror you are staring at as you were wrong about everything in your post.  Just a little reserach would have saved you the embarassment of being entirely wrong.

Gruden returning to coaching?

You guys always crack me up.  Gruden is a great coach, and commentator as well.  People love to bash on Switzer, yet he was immortal in college football, and is one of only 2 coaches to win an NCAA championship and a Super Bowl.  I could care less who "set the table" for him.

It's not like these guys can waltz in there and push play and everything goes according to plan.  How many Titles did Shaq & Kobe win before Phil took over?  Same with Jordan in Chicago.  Gruden went into Oakland and despite Al Davis's interference, made them a great team.  Noone else did it before, or since.  He also got Tampa over the hump after Dungy did not.

Don't discount what Switzer had to do to keep his team on the right path all year.  Whether it was stocking the White house, or covering up problems, in no way was it an easy job.  Not to mention he basically had to win with all the pressure.

I'm sure you could have stepped in there and done the same with your obviously extremely high football IQ.    Yeah right!

By the way, this is the most entertaining group on MNF for some time now.  If you don't like it, don't watch it, and don't talk about it on the internet!

With any luck, Gruden would come to San Diego, but they likely don't have the balls to hire a guy like that!

Thank God, so sick of him and his crew on MNF.
I know how you feel. I like Dennis Miller the comedian but as a commentator he was so awful that I just didn't watch MNF when he was around. Well, Gruden is just as bad, if not worse, and I couldn't stand listening to him this year either. So I'll watch bits and pieces but usually just look at the game tracker or do something else. I can't stand listening to that guy more than a few minutes at a time. Yesterday's game looked pretty good at the start too, but he's just impossible to listen to.

Also I don't know how good a coach he can possibly be. This is the guy that would have passed on Cam Newton after all.
