Gruden returning to coaching?

Posted on: December 26, 2011 11:50 pm
Jon Gruden is leaning towards returning to coaching, two sources close to the situation confirmed to me.

The San Diego Union-Tribune first reported that Gruden had decided to return to coaching next season.

However, two sources said late Monday night that while Gruden is indeed leaning towards returning, it's not certain. But some of this might be semantics. I'm told Gruden wants to see what positions he could possibly get before making a 100 percent final decision and that he hasn't officially made one yet because of the uncertainty.

(I was also told Gruden didn't expect this news to get out so soon.)

But again, semantics. He wants to come back. That's the important part of this story. And while I fully expect Gruden to issue a statement with some sort of non-denial/denial saying he's happy at ESPN, he's eyeing a return.

Gruden wants to coach again as soon as possible. That part is fact.

"He's ready to leave television," said one source, "but only if the right job is out there."

And that job, as the Union-Tribune reported, could be the St. Louis Rams.

Gruden returning to coaching?

If the San Diego job becomes available, and by all accounts it will, look for Gruden to land there. They have the offensive firepower that he would be looking for, a defense that is talent laden and a fan base that is hungry for a championship. Add in the fact that he would have two chances each year to get back at the Raiders and the deal is done!

Hey Freestyle, I don't agree with half the stuff you wrote but you are hysterical. That Vikings head coaching comment to go along woth the Denny Green gem was priceless. Thanks for the entertainment!!

Jaworski seems better at articulating the game than the coach does and I believe you are dead wrong on Bradford as his only knock is staying healthy. Give that guy some lineman and more than servicable playmakers and he will be money.

The Rams are clowns but have the offseason set up rather nicely to make some much needed moves so we'll see what happens.

Gruden returning to coaching?

i like gruden. that being said he is a money grubbing, power hungry narcissist. i dont hold againsy him. he is just like the donald. gruden is not an offensive genius like mike leach, but he can run an offense if given the right rams might be a good fit. maybe take an offensive lineman in the draft. get a ggod runnng back. there are a plethora of big good wide receivers out there, it is really a mistake to always only judge wr on size and speed. how about getting someone that catch the ball. example bowe of the chefs, he dripped a pass in the end zone that would have won the game, that was thrown right to him. it seemed almost impossible to drop.

Gruden returning to coaching?

I do not care where he coaches so long as it takes him out of the box from ESPN's Monday Night Football.  He is awful as a broadcaster.  Great football knowledge but he is far better suited as coach than a broadcaster.  If he does not return to coaching next season I sure hope ESPN is smart enough to replace him.  I would rather see a guy like Daryl Johnston on MNF.

I'll take him and then the Bears can dump the Clown Coach Lovie Smith. Probably would rather have Guppy (Jeff Fisher) tha Chuckie, though.

Gruden returning to coaching?

Yes Yes Yes coach for the RAMS!!  I hope that will come true!  It will be perfect fit for him to turn around the team!
i think it would be a GREAT fit if he keeps Bradford, but i dont see that happening.
Bye Spags unless you go back to Defense Coordinator.
first off, if you get Gruden, you also may say bye to Sam Bradford and hello to either RG3 or Andrew Luck (depends on if they get the top pick or not) then Bradford will likely be shipped, HOPEFULLY to Washington, if that happens i would be real happy, i like Bradford, now honestly, i dont know if i see Gruden in St. Louis.
