Gruden returning to coaching?

Posted on: December 26, 2011 11:50 pm

Jon Gruden is leaning towards returning to coaching, two sources close to the situation confirmed to me.

The San Diego Union-Tribune first reported that Gruden had decided to return to coaching next season.

However, two sources said late Monday night that while Gruden is indeed leaning towards returning, it's not certain. But some of this might be semantics. I'm told Gruden wants to see what positions he could possibly get before making a 100 percent final decision and that he hasn't officially made one yet because of the uncertainty.

(I was also told Gruden didn't expect this news to get out so soon.)

But again, semantics. He wants to come back. That's the important part of this story. And while I fully expect Gruden to issue a statement with some sort of non-denial/denial saying he's happy at ESPN, he's eyeing a return.

Gruden wants to coach again as soon as possible. That part is fact.

"He's ready to leave television," said one source, "but only if the right job is out there."

And that job, as the Union-Tribune reported, could be the St. Louis Rams.

Gruden returning to coaching?

Andy Dalton - John Gruden said last year that If he could have a choice to coach a QB in the NFL again he would love to coach Dalton. That was before Cincinnati Darfted him.
Jay Gruden - After Jay left Tampa to get a Head Coach job of his own brother John decided to step away from football. Gruden (John) even told his brother to take the OC job in cincy???
John Gruden sat down with Bengals president Mike Brown last year and was thought to come out of retirement to coach Cincinnati...instead they sign Lewis to a 1 year deal and bring his little brother (Jay).
Jay and John Gruden have coached together in the NFL and won a SB together while at Tampa.

This was setup to bring him in to coach again and I think it has worked. I have been waiting all year to see if John was coming back to coach and with the way last year happened... . Him coming out and saying hes ready to coach again is the sign that cincinnati has succeeded.

Gruden returning to coaching?

Report in SI says Gruden may be headed to St. Louis. Same report says Chargers GM Smith headed to Rams if fired by San Diego.

Gruden returning to coaching?

I told everyone last year he was coming back. Cincinnati signed his brothw=er (Jay) and gave Lewis a 1 year deal. Gruden was sought after last year by the Bengals and I believe he is set up to join his Brother (Jay) again in the NFL. Welcome to Cincinnati Coach

Gruden returning to coaching?

Except for the center who went a crazy binge 3 days before the SB.  Not only is center the most important part of your offensive line, his timing couldn't have been worse b/c it gave the Raiders no time to practice with the 2nd-string guy. That SB would have been a lotdifferent if Oakland either had their starting center, or had time to practice with the back-up.
Pretty certain you missed his point entirely. It wasn't about the super bowl, but the teams in it, and Chucky's part in both of those teams.

Another point - there's a reason this was reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune. Bye, Norv.

Gruden returning to coaching?

Gruden to Indy. Either he'll have Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck, a first class owner, first class facilities and a loyal fan base.
