Hines Ward to retire?

Posted on: January 9, 2012 10:14 am

Did Hines Ward play his last game? It appears he might have. A Steelers player texted to me the expectations around the team was that Ward would soon announce his retirement. That doesn't mean it's set he will. That means some Steelers players believe it which means it's likely to happen.

Ward is a different sort of dude. He could decide to hang on for one more year. But for the moment that doesn't seem to be the case.

Ward is clearly done physically. He just doesn't have the burst he once did. He was held without a catch against the Broncos and has become an afterthought in the Pittsburgh offense.

Yet, to me, he's a sure Hall of Famer. He became only the eighth wide receiver to reach 1,000 catches, had a lengthy and productive career, and won championships. He was one of the toughest receivers I've ever seen.

And it appears we've seen the last of Ward in the NFL.

Hines Ward to retire?

Whoever wrote this doesn't know much about football. Hines Ward is not a HOF player.  Nice career, team leader, great blocking wr, but not HOF material.

Hines Ward to retire?

@ brian8ball - Hines Ward isn't the best Steelers WR? Really? He only has every WR record for the Steelers, two Super Bowl trophies, one Super Bowl MVP. Don't get me wrong, Swann and Stallworth are top notch WR's for the Steelers...however Ward has made a big case to calm to be better than those two. Hines Ward isn't one of the best all time WR's but he sure does have a case to make the HOF...if Swann and Stallworth are in the HOF, and Ward beat their records, he has a right to be in the HOF.

Hines Ward to retire?

Great career, full of dirty hits, cheap shots, and terrible crackback blocks on unsuspecting players 40yrds away from the play. Put him in the hall of shame. One thing he did was teach Harrison how to be just as dirty. Kudos to you. I cant wait until Harrison gets taken out, for good. I cant stand the squeelers.100% overrated.

Hines Ward to retire?

best WR in history hahaha.  that is good stuff right there.  guy was a possession receiver, not even a game changer.  wes welker will go down as a better receiver than him.  but Jets fans should seriously crawl back into their holes.....no offense
