Hines Ward to retire?

Posted on: January 9, 2012 10:14 am

Did Hines Ward play his last game? It appears he might have. A Steelers player texted to me the expectations around the team was that Ward would soon announce his retirement. That doesn't mean it's set he will. That means some Steelers players believe it which means it's likely to happen.

Ward is a different sort of dude. He could decide to hang on for one more year. But for the moment that doesn't seem to be the case.

Ward is clearly done physically. He just doesn't have the burst he once did. He was held without a catch against the Broncos and has become an afterthought in the Pittsburgh offense.

Yet, to me, he's a sure Hall of Famer. He became only the eighth wide receiver to reach 1,000 catches, had a lengthy and productive career, and won championships. He was one of the toughest receivers I've ever seen.

And it appears we've seen the last of Ward in the NFL.

Hines Ward to retire?

When it rains, it pours.  First, the Steelers sucked against the Broncos. Then, they they lose one of their best offensive players of the last seven years, further symbolizing their getting old and injured. They have Wallace and Brown, and the rest of their team is injured, right?

Hines Ward to retire?

Ward ever strike fear when you played him? Was he ever a top 3 WR really in any given year?

Yes, and Yes.  He struck fear in many DBs when they were pursuing a ball carrier in the open field and had to worry about him laying a lights out block. He also had stats in 2002 that put him ahead of Moss and Owens in their prime. Hines finished second overal that year to Marvin Harrison who had his carrer best year.

Hines Ward to retire?

Even though TheShark29 is a life long Cowboys fan, I enjoyed watching Hines Ward play the game of football. This is the time for him to retire....He isn't really a starter anymore plus the Steelers as a team are getting older, especially on Defense.

Hines Ward to retire?

Love him or hate him, the man played the game the hard every play and that is the way it is suppose to be done.  I would lean towards the hall for him.  Congrats to Hines on a great career.

Hines Ward to retire?

Hall of Famer -  NO freakin' way.....

Until Cliff Branch or Chris Carter get into the Hall of Fame no way in hell (sorry Tebow mania) should this clown be seen anywhere near Canton.

Cliff Branch  501 rec 8685 yards and 67 tds
Cris Carter 1101 rec 13,899 yards and 130tds

Hines Ward 1000 rec 12,083 and  85 tds...

If Branch or Carter does not get in and this Clown does, the Hall is a JOKE!!!!

Branch and Carter played in the era where players could get mugged, and contacted more than 5 yards down field.

PLEASE STEELER FANS......  Go back to crying with those piss yellow towels.

This squeeler is not a HOF'er

Hines Ward to retire?

As a Cowboy fan I have to hate the Steelers, its the law, but congratulations to Hines Ward on a great career.  I am on the fence a bit about HOF --leaning "yes" -- but either way a very very good career if he decides to hang it up, and I think he should --46 catches at less than 8.5ypc shows he's clearly lost a step or two, that is just not going to get it done.

Hines Ward to retire?

Again, more Steeler haters.  And again, you people are a testament to how great the Steeler organizaiton is and always will be.

Hines is one of the greatest Steelers to ever wear the Black and Gold.  He is a definite Hall of Famer and someone that I have enoyed watching emmensely for 14 years.  Always a class act.

You haters hate him because he was too good and you wish he had been on your team.  Yur jealousy is too obvous.
