Hines Ward to retire?

Posted on: January 9, 2012 10:14 am

Did Hines Ward play his last game? It appears he might have. A Steelers player texted to me the expectations around the team was that Ward would soon announce his retirement. That doesn't mean it's set he will. That means some Steelers players believe it which means it's likely to happen.

Ward is a different sort of dude. He could decide to hang on for one more year. But for the moment that doesn't seem to be the case.

Ward is clearly done physically. He just doesn't have the burst he once did. He was held without a catch against the Broncos and has become an afterthought in the Pittsburgh offense.

Yet, to me, he's a sure Hall of Famer. He became only the eighth wide receiver to reach 1,000 catches, had a lengthy and productive career, and won championships. He was one of the toughest receivers I've ever seen.

And it appears we've seen the last of Ward in the NFL.

Hines Ward to retire?

Clutch player. Proven winner. One of the best Steelers WRs ever. He has the records. He career achievements are amazing and he has a highlight reel worthy of the HoF. He should get in some day.

Hines Ward to retire?

0 catches against the Broncos and the Steelers had to lose yards to get him his 1000 catch against the Browns, its time to retire and maybe a year late. It was painfully obvious against the Browns they had to use gadget plays just for him to get open for his milestone. Jeter hits a homerun for his 3000 hit Ward had a 4 yard loss for his 1000 catch, he is on the sidelines during crunchtime and the Steelers have too much talent and speed with the other recievers. Hines had a run that most recievers wish they had, he won alot of games and has been to multiple Super Bowls. As hard as it is it definitely is time.

Hines Ward to retire?

As a distraught Steeler fan it`s clear Hines had been replaced, but clearly a great career as a WR & yes his blocking was LEGAL & the best of any WR for years.  Losing to a bad team on the road happens all too often and it`s time for Mr. Rooney to step in as usual and fix the horendous 8-8 or 7-9 teams hosting a playoff game. Good luck in NE Denver, your gonna need it. Back to Hines Ward, he`s not a HOF but as good a WR as Swann & Stallworth for what he meant to his SB winning teamS(note 2 rings haters!). The hit on Decker by Hrarison was totally legal so deal with it. You don`t hear the Steelers crying about all the injuries they had.

Hines Ward to retire?

jg24hh, he has to go low now because he is too afraid to hit high and get fined again. He can aim for the chest, but the receiver can duck his head and Harrison will get blamed, fined, and suspended. The only thing he can do now to guarentee not to get fined and/or suspended is aim low.

Hines Ward to retire?

Should be a HOFer, one of the greatest blocking WR to ever play the game. On top of that, two time super bowl winner who managed 1000 receptions on a run first team throughout his career. You can tell that he loved to play the game, always a huge smile on his face no matter what happened. The game needs more players like Hines Ward.

Thanks for 14 incredible years Hines!!!  You are what we in Pgh love about football and our Steelers.  Good luck to you in all your future endeavors.  It would have been nice to send you out with another ring, but it was not to be this year.

Hines Ward to retire?

We should also add one of the dirtiest receivers we have ever seen...although he is nothing in comparison to "Cheap Shot" Harrison!  Harrison is too afraid to hit a receiver, that weighs 50 pounds less than him, in the mid-section. Instead he tries to blow out his knee. Coward!!

Hines Ward to retire?

Great career Hines Ward! I'm a Broncos fan, but Hines was always my favorite player not in a Broncos uniform. He got so much out of his limited talent and should be a Hall of Fame player.
