Hines Ward to retire?

Posted on: January 9, 2012 10:14 am

Did Hines Ward play his last game? It appears he might have. A Steelers player texted to me the expectations around the team was that Ward would soon announce his retirement. That doesn't mean it's set he will. That means some Steelers players believe it which means it's likely to happen.

Ward is a different sort of dude. He could decide to hang on for one more year. But for the moment that doesn't seem to be the case.

Ward is clearly done physically. He just doesn't have the burst he once did. He was held without a catch against the Broncos and has become an afterthought in the Pittsburgh offense.

Yet, to me, he's a sure Hall of Famer. He became only the eighth wide receiver to reach 1,000 catches, had a lengthy and productive career, and won championships. He was one of the toughest receivers I've ever seen.

And it appears we've seen the last of Ward in the NFL.

Hines Ward to retire?

Apparently you don't know very much about football BerieRotten... Hines will be a sure inductee, he was more than just stats, great team player, one of the best blocking WR's in the game, not to mention his SB wins. As a Steeler fan he will be missed.

Hines Ward to retire?

Hey, I love Hines.  But I also love that you would love to punch him in the face!  Maybe that's why I like him, he has that "punch me in the face" thing going for him!  Great post!

It's well deserved...and now necessary since that hit that Ray Lewis laid on him earlier this year!  I don;t recall him playing too much if at all since.Laughing

Hines Ward to retire?

NCGreen,

I will preface this with the fact I hate Brett Farve.  So glad Green Bay and Rodgers are shoving it in his face with the great run last year and this year as well.  With that being said......

Did you actually just compare TeBlow with Brett Farve????  If you believe in God, go see Him.  Turn in your oxygen card.  Anybody that could post something that ridiculous should not be allowed to waste our precious resources.  At the very least, suspend your own posting abilities until you realize how dumb that statement was......

Maybe you were thinking Vince Young, Ryan Leaf, Jamarcus 'Buffet Buster' Russell, or Brady Quinn???

For the record, I can name ten COLLEGE QB's better than Tebow right now.  Brett Farve, give me a fricking break.....

Hines Ward to retire?

Chill out Boxer, yes the Broncos are 8-8, but they were 7-3 (I think) after Tebow took over.  They may not be pretty in winning, but they win.  There have been times in recent years when the Steelers did exactly the same thing - ugly win after ugly win, but hey, they still won.  Watching Tebow reminds me a lot of watching a young Brett Farve struggle but still win with the Packers years and years ago.  Ward was a great player and should easliy make the HOF.  Maybe not on the 1st vote, but he should make it for sure.

Hines Ward to retire?

He will retire. One more concussion and he might be sitting next to sidney crosby drooling into a bucket. Hines ward was always a good player but never a great one. He won't make it into the HOF because there are so many WR's from his era that have better numbers. He did compile impressive stats but never dominated. His numbers are a product of longevity. That's not to take away from what he did because he did have a very good long career. But the HOF is for great players.
