Hines Ward to retire?

Posted on: January 9, 2012 10:14 am

Did Hines Ward play his last game? It appears he might have. A Steelers player texted to me the expectations around the team was that Ward would soon announce his retirement. That doesn't mean it's set he will. That means some Steelers players believe it which means it's likely to happen.

Ward is a different sort of dude. He could decide to hang on for one more year. But for the moment that doesn't seem to be the case.

Ward is clearly done physically. He just doesn't have the burst he once did. He was held without a catch against the Broncos and has become an afterthought in the Pittsburgh offense.

Yet, to me, he's a sure Hall of Famer. He became only the eighth wide receiver to reach 1,000 catches, had a lengthy and productive career, and won championships. He was one of the toughest receivers I've ever seen.

And it appears we've seen the last of Ward in the NFL.

Hines Ward to retire?

i think he is borderline for hall of fame. He did win that first superbowl when Ben was absolutely hiddeous in that game. For his sake i hope he retires now before any more damage is done to his brain so he can enjoy the rest of his life.

Hines Ward to retire?

Please retire Hines,

You shouldn't have to wear the same jersey the other FRAUDS where.  This used to be a proud franchise, but has been taken down by Tomlin.  I wonder what the chances are Cowher would come back and saved this wretched team.  Hines Ward face told the story.  He looked stunned, and should have been.  They just lost to the hapless, lowly Denver Broncos, and there was nothing he, one of the few remaining GOOD Steelers, could do about it.

Its a travesty that this garbage team sent you out on the ultimate low note, but take your helmet off and ride into the sunset.  You were a COMPLETE WR, and sure-fire 1st ballot HOF'er.

Hines Ward to retire?

About time he retires, he lost consciousness in 3 of the 4 games I watched of the Steelers this year, between him and Troy P. they've given Aikman and Steve Young a run for most minutes spent sleeping on the field.  Also,  Hines isnt a lock for the HOF, great player though.

Hines Ward to retire?

Hines Ward is good but not HOF good. Great career but not HOF. Did H. Ward ever strike fear when you played him? Was he ever a top 3 WR really in any given year? You don'y make the HOF on heart alone

Hines Ward to retire?

Some call him dirty, some call him tough, some call him a class act, some call him a future Hall of Famer.  All I know is that I sure enjoyed watching him play all these years.  I enjoyed watching him play and I'm not even a Steelers fan.  I just enjoy watching a "football guy" and that's how I would like to remember him.  Good luck Hines!

Hines Ward to retire?

Who could blame him.  After nearly getting killed in Gotham while the whole field collapsed into the ground, who among us wouldn't be rattled.

Hines Ward to retire?

He should retire. He had a nice career as a stat compiler. He was never great but always reliable. I hope he hangs them up instead of sticking around and forcing the steelers to cut him. It would be in his best interest to go out on his terms. Congrats on a long career Hines Ward.

Hines Ward to retire?

I do not like the steelers, but man I will miss Hines Ward.  He was a LB playing receiver, what a tough SOB.
He set the tone for toughness on that offense.

Good luck Hines!!!

Hines Ward to retire?

Lest we not forget, one of the greatest blocking recievers in the history of the game. And this coming from someone who hates the steelers. HOF for sure.
