Hines Ward to retire?

Posted on: January 9, 2012 10:14 am

Did Hines Ward play his last game? It appears he might have. A Steelers player texted to me the expectations around the team was that Ward would soon announce his retirement. That doesn't mean it's set he will. That means some Steelers players believe it which means it's likely to happen.

Ward is a different sort of dude. He could decide to hang on for one more year. But for the moment that doesn't seem to be the case.

Ward is clearly done physically. He just doesn't have the burst he once did. He was held without a catch against the Broncos and has become an afterthought in the Pittsburgh offense.

Yet, to me, he's a sure Hall of Famer. He became only the eighth wide receiver to reach 1,000 catches, had a lengthy and productive career, and won championships. He was one of the toughest receivers I've ever seen.

And it appears we've seen the last of Ward in the NFL.

Hines Ward to retire?

Ward is saying on his social media sites that he has NO intention on retiring and that he wants to win one more. He just posted that within the last two hours.

Hines Ward to retire?

Kommish,  That is the best you could find? Your Bungles play the Steelers twice a year and Hines is in his 14th season. At least one playoff game so that is 29 games and you couldn't find a hit on him by a Bengal? Here is a clip for you.

Hines Ward to retire?

It doesn't matter what the haters have to say.  Hines is another Steeler player that defines what the game should be.  He'll smack the SH!T out of linebacker.  When he gets lit up, he smiles and runs back to the huddle.  My family and I will miss watching you 86!  There isn't a person in the family without your jersery.  STEELER NATION!

Hines Ward to retire?

It's time to just get excited about players getting healthy and some good games coming next week. The bummer is they are all in the NFC.

Sounds like sour grapes dude! What, steelers out so that means no good teams in AFC? Hofw bout 11-2 Pats or Ravens, who whooped your steelers twice!!

Hines Ward to retire?

BANJOMAN3,

Are you completely dillusional.  No one can debate his success, however, classy he was not.  The constant laughing in the opponents faces and mocking them after every catch got old.  Just catch it and give the ball back to the ref, but no, he always had to do the taunting smile in the defenders face.  If that is class to you, I feel sorry for you.

Hines Ward to retire

I personally hated him so much, but he is an outstanding WR and deserves to make the hall. 1000 receptions, 12,083 yards, and one of the greatest blocking recievers. No matter how many cheap shots he had.

Hines Ward to retire?

I wanted take a moment to thank all of Steeler Nation for the love and support. I'm sorry for the disappointing loss. I'm still depressed about it. We had a great year finishing 12-4 but our ultimate goal was to win the Super Bowl and we fell short. Hats off to Denver. I'm also getting lots of questions about retirement so let me set the record straight: I have no plans on retiring right now. I want to win another Superbowl. I don't know where the media is getting this info from but rest assured that when I decide to retire, you'll hear it from ME first. - HINES
