Super Bowl Shoutout: Can Gronk be effective?

OPENING HIT: Part of me wonders if Bill Belichick is pulling a fast one. That somehow Rob Gronkowski isn't as hurt as the Patriots are saying but that's far-fetched even for the tricky mind of Belichick. Which means Gronkowski is really badly injured.

This isn't a question of whether Gronk will play. He'll likely find a way to be on the field. The real question is effectiveness, and based on everything I hear the chances of Gronkowski being a factor are almost non-existent. You don't recover from high ankle trauma this quickly and the fact he still hasn't practiced is the biggest indicator of the seriousness of the injury.

My guess is Belichick will try and use Gronkowski as a decoy. Put him in the game, run a few routes maybe, use him as a blocker if possible. But the idea that Gronk will be Gronk with that kind of injury is a bit far-fetched.

Unless Gronkowski is even tougher than we think which seems impossible.

The Giants were 9-7.  They lost twice to Washington.  This is no slam dunk for the Giants.  You can blame Vegas when the Pats win....Vegas can't afford it any other way.

Super Bowl Shoutout: Can Gronk be effective?

The hit on Brady was completely legal.  The NFL made it illegal after the fact because we can't have anything bad happening to Brady,

Super Bowl Shoutout: Can Gronk be effective?

The NFL Network says the Gronk will need surgery to repair torn ligaments in his ankle after the Super Bowl, so the only way he can play is to be heavily taped and shot up with novacaine.  Bernard Pollard of the Ravens should be fined and suspended by the NFL for his remarks with with regard to the blown out knee that he illegally delivered to Tom Brady in 2008 and for this injury to Gronkowski, where it looked like he too had suffered a torn ACL or severe damage to the ankle.  He also has been accused of a cheap shot on Wes Welker.  On a radio show in Balitmore to paraphrase Pollard, he could care less if his play injuries anyone, regardless of the severity, and he will continue to play in the same manner.  If the NFL doesn't take action against him, as a player, I would make sure the same message was delivered back to him in the same remorseless fashion.  What goes around, comes around, and Pollard better watch out he doesn't go home in a wheelchair, the next time New England plays Baltimore.  While I usually wouldn't condone such action, it is time this giver becomes the recipient of his type of play and injuries caused.

I see his boot came off today and he said he feels good.  Obviously walking leisurely around media day is a bit different than making cuts, sprinting, getting tackled, and blocking, so it probably doesn't mean as much as it seems.

SaintsfaninLV, you need to step outside the Vegas city limits. Unlike the betting line, the majority of media and fans in general are picking the Giants. Some are even calling it a rout. There are Giants fans on this site who are telling me they see Pats fans predicting a Patriot blowout, but I can't find more than one or two. Meanwhile, many Giants fans are joining their players in proclaiming the Giants as champions as though the game has already been played.

They should probably not even play the game then. Its a done deal, Giants win. The best part about this SB is the talk is all Giants unlike 2007, and we know what happened there. The G-men had a few lucky bounces go their way against SF (as in two muffed punts), but you don't hear to much about that. Pats always play their best when the talk is "they can't win, or the Giants are playing to well right now". Expect Welker and Hernandez to have big games and Gronk to throw in some key blocks for running plays. Anything can happen Sunday, nobody can predict who will win this game, it will simply be the team that wants it more and is better prepared.

I completely agree. All the Giants players are bragging and talking overconfident about the game as though they have won it already. Many of the Giants fans and Patriot haters on here as well. The media also.

And I too, like Story, have brought up past Super Bowls(including 2007) when the cocky, overconfident team lost(super Bowls 3, 19, 36 and 42).

The Patriot players, meanwhile, are using the usual, "coachspeak"("The Giants have a good defense and we're going to have to play our best game if we are going to win"., etc.) I hope the trend continues. If it does, there is a good chance that Antrel Rolle, Mario Manningham, Eli Manning and the rest of the arrogant Giants will have sad faces as they watch the Patriots hoist the Lombardi trophy Sunday night.

Story is also correct in that the Patriots seem like they love this kind of scenario and seem to play their best when everyone says they have little or no chance.

Are people drunk!? If Gronk can't go, Hernandez will step up. People forget he had 900 yards on the season as the 3rd or 4th option and was injured for a large chunk of it. For any other team he would be mentioned with Gronk and Graham. Whether the Patriots win or not will be decided by how much time Brady gets in the pocket not the health of Gronkowski.
