Manning and Irsay to meet this week?

I can't remember the last time an upcoming meeting between an owner and player drew so much attention but the anticipated gathering between quarterback Peyton Manning and Colts owner Jim Irsay has the NFL, and in some ways all of sports, slightly holding its breath.

One league source said the two might finally have a sit-down this week to talk. That's not definite but it seems likely. One thing that's become clear is the two men don't want another circus. Both sides don't want to meet, I'm told, the week of the combine and thus have Manning news dominate the way it did Super Bowl week.

It remains possible the two men wait until after the combine but the feeling seems to be they want to get the meeting over with sooner than later. It's highly likely they meet in secret and no one finds out until afterwards.

Irsay wrote on his Twitter account Friday, speaking of last week: "Things r quiet this week n weekend, getting ready for NFL Combine, completing coaching staff, analyzing roster. There's no news on Peyton."

My guess -- everyone in football's guess -- is that the two men will basically say their goodbyes. No one, and I mean no one, expects Manning back. Stranger things have happened but it appears almost certain the meeting is the first step in the departure of Manning from the Colts.

Manning and Irsay to meet this week?

I like Seattle with Peyton at the helm, assuming he's healthy enough of course.  It would be the first time he had a rushing attack that could legitimately pull 8 defenders into the box.  I bet Peyton could do a lot with Lynch, especially if Reggie followed him.  Zach Miller would have a great year as well, probably comparable to the type of years Dallas Clark consistently put up with Peyton.  I think Seattle's defense is going to be pretty stout next year as well, lots of youth coming into their own.

Manning and Irsay to meet this week?

I can't wait until this Jim Irsay and Peyton Manning divorce is final, I'm getting sick of hearing about this and I know I'm not the only one out here that feels this way! It's been obvious that a split is coming for quite sometime and the only drama left is when will it happen? I hope that Manning's healthy enough to continue his NFL career in another city.

Manning and Irsay to meet this week?

There is no hope of a playoff run for the Colts without Manning at qb next year, perhaps even the next several years. That said, there is no guarantee that Peyton will be the Peyton of old next year, or ever. This may be the biggest gamble of Jim Irsay's life. It would definitely be worth the $28 mil to host a playoff game or more. If he moves on and wins another championship or more, what does that do for the Colts attendance when they are only winning 5-7 games a year. My guess is the Ravens, Cardinals or the Jaguars would be his most likely landing points if he doesn't stay. (People throw the Redskins around, but I don't see him signing in the sme division as Eli.) The Ravens have a ton more talent to surround him with than the Colts do and Jacksonville is still an improvement. The Cardinals are better, also, but at this point in his career, it's hard to say whether he'll want to play for another nutbag owner. The problem with the Ravens would be the two games they have to play the Steelers. If you get to pick, teams that don't have 2 games a season with Pittsgurgh seem to be more attractive. If he doesn't stay (and it's very likely he won't), I hope he can still play. Next year is sizing up to one of the most fun seasons ever if he does.
