Brett Favre...Hall of Famer but barely top 10

These are the quarterbacks I would take over Brett Favre, who I thought would only retire after they pried the football from his cold, dead hands:

Tom Brady, Joe Montana, John Elway, Peyton Manning, John Unitas, Otto Graham (the most underrated thrower perhaps ever), Dan Marino, Steve Young, Warren Moon, Roger Staubach and Terry Bradshaw.

All of them had better careers than Favre.

Favre's greatest asset was his endurance but his greatest weakness was his inaccuracy. He tossed more interceptions than any quarterback ever and that's not a good thing for an NFL thrower.

Favre has been called a "gunslinger" a term that always amused me. When did that become code for error prone?

All athletes should take notice of how Favre handled the media and fans. He treated both well and the media overlooked his glaring weaknesses as a quarterback because they liked him personally. He was rarely taken to task for throwing so many key interceptions in so many big spots.

A non-partisan eye looks at Favre's career and sees it for what it was: he achieved Hall of Fame status and was a perfect fit in one of the top football towns in America but he never reached the top tier status of a Brady or Marino.

Brett Favre...Hall of Famer but barely top 10

Brett played better!

His teams sucked with exception of the Super Bowl year!

the other QB's for the most part had great teams. I watched all the Packer Game that Brett played, His WR broke off routs and ran wrong ones for at least 1/2 of his INT's! If you Watch his games you would know that!

its funny to me when people say favres the most execiting qb ever.if you say that you must a packer fan.steve young by far is the most execiting qb ever to play the game he could do it all.the most fearless qb to ever live or better yet football player to live.they say brett farves tough thats funny to.steve young used to dive trough line backers head first to get a first down feild with out helment on like it was nothing.hardly never slid always got extra yard.young caught his touchdown pass after it deflected off a defender he ran up and caught and scored a touchdown talk about execiting how many qbs have do that. young played through games with concusions.why wont you go watch some of youngs career highlights if you dont beleive me.and yes young is definately a top five qb.young has the highest career qb rating.he six passing titles in the nintys when montana, elway, akiman, marino, farve were all playing.most seasons with qb rating over a 100 with 6.2 time mvp.suoerbowl mvp with record 6 tds in superbowl witch was the greatest performance in superbowl history and of course he didnt throw a pick.he doesnt have the atts like marino or farve , he has half the atts.232 passing tds.a record 43 rushing tds for a qb.second alltime with 4,239yds rushing for qb.33,139yds passing .when he retired he had the best career comp % at 65%.he had the best td to int ratio when he retire.mike shanahan said he was in the top five greatest qbs to ever play the game.john madden said that as well.and brent jones the 49ers tihgt end said none of those other four who ever that may be didnt follow a hall of famer, that to me is the single greatest accomplishment in sports.

Now that's wrong Farve is top five i will say. He's better than ten, but he will come back (i hope). You got to give him credit.

ok i think you need a lesson in football.

some of the QB's you said you would take over Brett does make sense. but once you said Terry Bradshaw you lost. go look at the mans stats. he threw 212 TD's and 210 INT's. and did i mention he has a career passer rating of 74. his 4 rings are from the steel curtain.

now Brett has done alot with alot less talent in the WR postion. and to say he isnt even in the top 10 is stupid. the guy is in the top 5.

here is the real top 5

Joe Montana

Dan Marino

Brett Farve

Johnny Unitas

John Elway

thats not in order the order changes from person to person. but those are the top 5 QB's of all time. now Peyton will be in the list and might actually be the best of the group. but let the ones still playing retire before they even get a mention.

In my humble opinion Mike... one of the best ever isn't someone who has 11 players better than him at his position. Do you remember 1996, 1997, & 1998? How can you possibly put Warren Moon, Steve Young, and Terry Bradshaw ahead of Favre? Brady and Manning shouldn't even be mentioned at this point. I'll give you Elway, Montana, and Marino... but Favre deserves to be mentioned with those 3.

Gman: Ah, I said he was a Hall of Famer. How is that saying he isn't one of the best?

Freeman, I gotta give you credit... you sure know how to fire people up. I think that is your basis when writing this stuff... "what can I write that is going to cause some controversy?" If you really feel that Favre isn't one of the best QB's to grace the field in the NFL... then you are a fool. People can lay out all the stats they want, but the simple fact is, people loved to watch this man play football. Whether it was a 60 yard bomb off his back foot for a touchdown... a backhanded flip to a running back while getting sacked... or a ridiculous game ending interception in the 4th quarter... he kept you glued to your seat. He did things most QB's couldn't or wouldn't even attempt to do! In 17 years... how often were the Packers completely blown out of a game??? Give the man his due Freeman... admit your mistake, and end this silly thread.

He only makes ridiculous, ill-informed declarations.

Such as? How half your list threw picks at a more prolific rate than Favre? How Elway played almost as long as Favre and is 142 touchdowns away from the record? How Favre lead the Packers to more wins than any other NFL team has in the 16 years he played in Green Bay? How the term gunslinger gets thrown around by ignorant sports journalists? (Sorry for being redundant with that last one.)

Wow, Mike what did you say that justified the administrator taking down your post? Wonder what their rationale was?
