Brett Favre...Hall of Famer but barely top 10

These are the quarterbacks I would take over Brett Favre, who I thought would only retire after they pried the football from his cold, dead hands:<br />

<br />

Tom Brady, Joe Montana, John Elway, Peyton Manning, John Unitas, Otto Graham (the most underrated thrower perhaps ever), Dan Marino, Steve Young, Warren Moon, Roger Staubach and Terry Bradshaw.<br />

<br />

All of them had better careers than Favre.<br />

<br />

Favre's greatest asset was his endurance but his greatest weakness was his inaccuracy. He tossed more interceptions than any quarterback ever and that's not a good thing for an NFL thrower.<br />

<br />

Favre has been called a "gunslinger" a term that always amused me. When did that become code for error prone?<br />

<br />

All athletes should take notice of how Favre handled the media and fans. He treated both well and the media overlooked his glaring weaknesses as a quarterback because they liked him personally. He was rarely taken to task for throwing so many key interceptions in so many big spots.<br />

<br />

A non-partisan eye looks at Favre's career and sees it for what it was: he achieved Hall of Fame status and was a perfect fit in one of the top football towns in America but he never reached the top tier status of a Brady or Marino.

Warren Moon??? Did that guy ever even make it to the super bowl? and Staubach and Bradshaw I personally never saw play, but they seemed more of the good, but don't screw it up types who always won with good defenses. Doomsday and Steel Curtain. Not to say they aren't top ten....i just don't picture them being above Brett.

I'm honestly suprised Freeman didn't throw in Doug Flutie...the guy did win the CFL's Most Outstanding Player award a record six times and win 3 Grey Cup MVPs. Sounds like he is the best ever and way better than Favre. (sarcasm...although i did like Flutie, hate the bills since they got rid of him)

Anyways, back to Favre....my favorite thing about him is that in 1995-1997 he won the MVP 3 times....then 5 years later in 2002 he was second in MVP voting to Rich Gannon then another 5 years passes...second to Tom Brady. The point isn't so much that he won 3 more than it is that he finished 2nd or higher in MVP balloting in seasons that are 12 years apart, while playing good football in the middle (as evident by the runner up in 2002)

Favre's greatest asset was not listening to idiot sports writers that spent too much time over analyzing the number interceptions he threw.  The man won games, that's the only stat that counts.  One losing season in 17 years.  Brett Favre is top three all time anything else and you're fooling yourself.

You sir need to get educated.  Otto Graham threw a pick every 19 attempts, Favre every 30 attempts.  Who is error prone?  Graham threw a touchdown every 15 attempts Favre only every 20, but here's the rub Favre threw 442 in his career.  Do you even know how many Graham threw? 174.  Yep that's it.  Favre won 34 more games than Graham even played in the NFL.  Favre has a better completion percentage.  Favre is a 3 time MVP.  You can have Graham.  I'll take Favre.

Elway pales in comparison as well.  Interception every 32 attempts, better than Favre.  Td every 24 attempts, much worse than Favre.  300 total touchdowns in 234 games puts Elway 5th all time.  It also puts him 142 behind Favre.  I suppose it's just because Favre played more games right?  Well if Elway averaged 6 td a game for 22 games then he would equal Favre.  That's right.  John Elway would have to average 6 touchdowns a game for well over a season to just catch Favre.  You can have Elway.  I'll take Favre.

I could do this with most of your list.  Bradshaw and Staubach are easier than Elway.  Marino is about the same as Elway.  Unitas threw a pick every 20 attempts, much worse than Favre.  Your joking with Moon, right?  Montana, Young, Brady and Manning are tougher.  But I think they benefit from great team and system more than Favre did in his career.  Young actually has better numbers than Montana, I think that is a testament to the system.

Top 5 all-time is unarguable.  Care to look at all-time wins?  Win %.  Most of your list isn't in the same area code.

Typical Freeman article, crassly pushing incendiary content for no apparent reason.  Wouldn't it be nice if he actually wrote a congratulatory, rational article about Brett Favre rather than trying to drag him down to gain journalistic cred?  I mean what's the point of this piece anyway?  To point out what a clever analyst of quarterbacks he is?  Is now the time to point out Favre's flaws and nitpick about how other quarterbacks had greater strengths in some areas of the game, or is now the time to reflect on the high points of his career and be thankful for all the great memories he's given to football fans?  I know your main objective is to increase your readership, but have some class, Freeman.

Mr. Freeman,

You may just want to stay out of the state of Wisconsin for a while.
