PETA makes joke of Woods in proposed billboard

Posted on: February 24, 2010 6:49 pm

ORLANDO, Fla. – Over the course of history, has an organization ever so completely misread an athlete, his personality, or his less-than-forgiving background?

In an astoundingly ham-handed attempt to use the lurid sex scandal involving Tiger Woods to bring attention to animal-control issues, PETA plans to use the golfer’s likeness in a billboard ad placed in his hometown – though it has not secured his permission.

A mock-up of the ad was featured in the Orlando Sentinel, along with the message to be featured on the proposed billboard: “Too Much Sex Can Be A Bad Thing … for little tigers too. Help keep your cats (and dogs) out of trouble: Always spay or neuter!”

PETA hopes to place the billboard in the Windermere area, near where Woods lives. Virginia Fort, who is associated with PETA, told the newspaper, "We're sure Tiger will appreciate our attempt — from a story that's distracted the world and followed Tiger — to turn it into something positive for little tigers," she said.

She obviously somebody hasn’t done much homework.

Woods has repeatedly and fiercely defended the use of his likeness, particularly when others have made money or tangible gains off his name or reputation. So it’s hard to envision him allowing the use of his photo to make a joke out of his increasingly sticky personal life, right in his hometown.

Off the top of my head, I can think of a billboard in Michigan that attempted to use a caricature of Woods that was eventually removed. In another instance, when Woods’ management learned that a USGA website that was selling photos of Woods from the U.S. Open for hundreds of dollars, the offer was removed almost immediately.

"It's a fun, tongue-in-cheek approach. We hope these billboard companies will understand," Fort told the newspaper.

The full story and billboard likeness can be seen here:

Woods’ spokesman didn’t immediately return an email seeking comment from Just an educated hunch here, but Woods will play tournament golf again before this billboard ever sees the light of day.

Woods has no ties to PETA and has not sanctioned the ad.

This puts Tiger in a bad spot since the PETA ad was Elin's idea.  So if you are bashing PETA you are bashing Elin and Tiger said to leave her alone.
Rumor has it that if this cat strays again she will neuter him on the spot.  Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, and Mark O'Meara will hold him down.

Tiger is effectively neutered already since any further mistake will bring an even greater atomic force of public opinion down upon him.  Did he learn his lesson?  And was the lesson, Don't Get Caught.  Does anyone believe Tiger has it in him to be faithful?  He has had 15 plus years of womanizing.  Elin wasn't enough then, how will she be enough now?
Tiger is known for studying, playing, and mastering the game of golf around the globe.  His voracious, sexual apetite seems unlikely to be satisfied with playing just one course.

PETA makes joke of Woods in proposed billboard

I suppose the next thing will be a Trivial Pursuit game with questions like...

1.) What club was used to beat on the car?

2.) What part of Woods' anatomy was hurt by the crash?

3.) How many Fedex Cups has Tiger won?

Watch as Q's 1+2 are answered quite easily while people scratch heads on Q3.

Feel free to add your own questions so we get quite a Q bank going here...

PETA makes joke of Woods in proposed billboard

Honestly, PETA really does suck. I feel like all they do is wait around for someone to slip up and then they jump in on it.  I think that this billboard idea is completely ridiculous and the whole PETA organization should just end. I cant stand their organization because they do stuff like this or basically just pick on celebrities.

The anti-PETA comments prove once-again the saying of H. L. Mencken: "I hate all sports as rabidly as a person who likes sports hates common sense."

First, PETA would be happy to be sued, as it would bring the issue of shelter animal deaths into the spotlight.

Second, the more it is discussed the more it will sink into some of the masses that there are millions of animals killed in shelters, which might be acceptable if it weren't for the often primitive and cruel methods used. It is necessary only because of the ignorance of selfish people who buy animals from puppy mills.

Of course there are those who will claim to be off-put by PETA, but these folks are almost always the same folks who are off-put by anyone asking them to do anything that doesn't benefit their close friends or family. And many of them would be proud to be the Poster Boy for Selfishness.

Well said.  The jerks spewing these mindless anti-PETA comments wouldn't last 2 minutes in an SPCA euthansia room, let alone a slaughterhouse or fur-skinning operation.  I'd like to see them live their lives in crates not much bigger than their bodies, stumble as downers in a slaughterhouse line, have their noses debeaked, their feet amputated, ther skins flayed while alive, their asses rammed with electric prods--just to put their juicy hamburgers and veal patties on their plates, the leather on their shoes, and the fur on their wives clothing.  Or maybe they'd like their kids to go to work at 12 in a sweatshop for 12 hours a day @ $15 a week.  Ignorant idiots.

PETA should their own spokesperson Bob Barker on the billboard. After all, he had a few sexual harassment lawsuits in his day during The Price is Right. Obviously Mr. Spay & Neuter Your Pets couldn't keep his little PETA in its cage either.

and they want to drag the name and image of A MAN corporate whore who has already suffered added to the  ABUSE and HUMILIATION (of workers around the world (nike)) at the hands of every known form of media (due to him being a total d-bag), even deeper into the muck: all in the name of being MORE CONSIDERATE TOWARDS THE LIVES AND FEELINGS OF ANIMALS.

Does anyone else besides me see that something is wrong with this picture?

Yeah, you're defending a total d-bag.

And why didn't it occur to this caring organization that their actions say that they really don't care about anything, EXCEPT MAKING MONEY?

I think an explanation is in order here.  Who in PETA is making the money???

Tiger should sue them, and then put up a billboard of his own, saying, "PETA can go suck my Peta'."

He could, but that would be silly because it makes zero sense.
