Tiger on Thursday: TV or not TV?

Posted on: March 31, 2010 8:41 am

Two of the key questions relating to next week's Masters involve how club officials will handle the pairings dilemma and when Tiger Woods will hit his opening Augusta National shot.

That is, which unlucky saps will be paired with Woods in the first two rounds, putting them in the eye of the storm as he concludes a 144-day layoff after enduring one of the biggest public-relations disasters in sports history, and how much will be seen on TV?

Just for the record, below is the complete list of his playing partners at Augusta since he turned pro, courtesy of the Associated Press. Also note the tee times, which are interesting in that the ESPN broadcast window on Thursday is from 4-7:30 p.m. Based on past history, it seems fair to say that in a best-case scenario, only his back nine will be televised live. The latest he has teed off is 1:52 p.m.

If he tees off in the morning wave, before noon, it stands to reason that nary a shot will be seen live on the network since he'll likely be finished by 4 p.m.

2009 _ 1:52 p.m.    Stewart Cink, Jeev Milkha Singh
2008 _ 10:45 a.m.  Angel Cabrera, Stuart Appleby
2007 _ 1:52 p.m.    Paul Casey, Aaron Baddeley
2006 _ 10:23 a.m.  a-Edoardo Molinari, Robert Allenby
2005 _ 1:33 p.m.    Darren Clarke, Carlos Franco
2004 _ 1:30 p.m.    a-Casey Wittenberg, Thomas Bjorn
2003 _ 10:44 a.m.  a-Ricky Barnes, Angel Cabrera
2002 _ 10:53 a.m.  a-Bubba Dickerson, Toshi Izawa

Tiger on Thursday: TV or not TV?

To me it is not about any individual golfer as to why I watch The Masters. It it about Augusta National, plain and simple. Anybody who has been priveliged to walk those grounds ( I went in '87 on a Friday) knows that it is a special place to be in the springtime. Sure, I'll be interested to see how the media circus plays out , but I'll be interested to see how all the participants perform and how they will handle the pressure of vieing for the green jacket and their place in history. So what if Tiger isn't on live TV, CBS is going to show how he fared on replay anyway. If you don't want to watch when they show his travails, then go make sandwich and get a cold one, then return for the rest of the action. It's going to be good. It always is!!

I guess we can put this all to rest. The black community will back him only because their Icon has shown just what he is. The mothers and fathers in the black community finally had someone they could tell thier sons, "Be like Tiger, for he is something we can be proud of and not the druggies and rapist we have in other sports." Now that is all lost. Post and argue all you want, it is a fact!

Redwings ...can you do us all a favor and please leave this forum!!!  You've said it twice after this post and yet you keep posting.

All I have to really say is no one said you couldn't have an opinion, but trying to spread hatred is a completely different thing.

Hey idiot.  You want hatred?? Fine, go jump off the nearest cliff jerkoff.   Don't even try to tell me I'm spreading hatred just because I have no respect for a man that destroys his family INTENTIONALLY and then when he gets caught calls his slut to warn her instead of manning up.  And then after all hell breaks loose he has a sex problem and needs therapy??

Drop dead if you don't like my opinion.. but it IS an opinion and i'm allowed to have it moron...

redwings...I am with you a hundred percent.  Apparently anyone who has an opinion has no life.  Love that logic.  Im sure a lot of thee idiot posters are fun to hang out with eh. Excellent conversations.
Thanks. And yeah, can you even imagine what having a real conversation face to face with half of these buffoons would be like???  As soon as you make sense about anything their eyes would roll to the back of their head. They would immediately either zone out or answer with "doesn't matter" or something else that makes even less sense.   Carrying a conversation with these people would be worse then literally watching paint dry for hours..... if given the choice, I certainly would much rather watch paint dry then speak with them...
