Tiger on Thursday: TV or not TV?

Posted on: March 31, 2010 8:41 am
Two of the key questions relating to next week's Masters involve how club officials will handle the pairings dilemma and when Tiger Woods will hit his opening Augusta National shot.

That is, which unlucky saps will be paired with Woods in the first two rounds, putting them in the eye of the storm as he concludes a 144-day layoff after enduring one of the biggest public-relations disasters in sports history, and how much will be seen on TV?

Just for the record, below is the complete list of his playing partners at Augusta since he turned pro, courtesy of the Associated Press. Also note the tee times, which are interesting in that the ESPN broadcast window on Thursday is from 4-7:30 p.m. Based on past history, it seems fair to say that in a best-case scenario, only his back nine will be televised live. The latest he has teed off is 1:52 p.m.

If he tees off in the morning wave, before noon, it stands to reason that nary a shot will be seen live on the network since he'll likely be finished by 4 p.m.

2009 _ 1:52 p.m.    Stewart Cink, Jeev Milkha Singh
2008 _ 10:45 a.m.  Angel Cabrera, Stuart Appleby
2007 _ 1:52 p.m.    Paul Casey, Aaron Baddeley
2006 _ 10:23 a.m.  a-Edoardo Molinari, Robert Allenby
2005 _ 1:33 p.m.    Darren Clarke, Carlos Franco
2004 _ 1:30 p.m.    a-Casey Wittenberg, Thomas Bjorn
2003 _ 10:44 a.m.  a-Ricky Barnes, Angel Cabrera
2002 _ 10:53 a.m.  a-Bubba Dickerson, Toshi Izawa

Tiger on Thursday: TV or not TV?

Sidtheman.  I agree with you 100 percent as well, these people don't have a clue.  The funny thing is when I pay close attention to how people here have responded to your posts and mine it's actually very comical.   I've learned so much from these morons... it's unreal.

1) I've learned that all Tiger did was "cheat"... I mean, a few years of it with dozens of woman worldwide but hey... he's a great golfer !
2) I'm a tool because I don't choose to support losers like Tiger Woods.
3) I have no life. The reason? Because my posts regarding Tiger were negative.. but... people that like him HAVE a life ...... Right !!!!!
4) I learned that it's none of my business and that all that matters is how he golfs.  I"ve learned that an athlete's personal life is his business and that I am not allowed to be negative...  so why not support a child molester???  I mean, if they are a great athlete and put people in the stands you can say it's his personal life right??  None of my business right???

Screw these idiots...

Tiger on Thursday: TV or not TV?

Sure Tiger will be on TV a lot.  Sure lots of people will tune in.  Sure there will be speculation.  Why?  Tiger is royalty.  We claim to be a democratic society but we love our royalty.  What happens if a poor man from  Hickston has an affair with 20 women??  Nothing.  There will be no news reports, no comments , no headlines.  Tiger is royalty and the average person is captivated by royalty because they have small lives and smaller minds.

Tiger on Thursday: TV or not TV?

This will be the first time in 55 years I will NOT watch the Masters. This will be the Tiger show and I am not interested at all. I am really dissapointed with CBS and the PGA for thinking golf is all about one person and look who they chose for a poster boy. Golf will be hurting big time when this person leaves because they have made it all about him. You will not hear another name all weekend. SICK!

Sidtheman, it sounds like you have a problem with other fans that have not turned against Tiger the golfer. I've read a lot of opinions and most clearly say what he did was at the very least unfaithful and at worst absolutely unforgivable and worthy of a public flogging. i would like to know why are we still beating this dead horse? Fans of golf , of which i am one am only interested in his ability to play the game. Can he bounce back to the number one spot and play at such a level as to just wow the occasional watcher and the seasoned follower.

I have two sons and a daughter and i am their role model, i set the example in my home and i teach my kids decency , honor, respect for one another. I teach my sons how to treat women  and how to be a man by my actions,  how i treat their mother and how i treat their sister. I teach my daughter how a man is supposed to treat those he loves and make sure she knows that any man interested in her has to at least measure up to me because i'm the example.

The comments about Tiger's infidelity from some seem to suggest that some of you have invested so much in a man and he's not lived up to your expectations or you so dislike for other reasons so now you're just unloading on him out of anger.

Be careful who you put your faith in. Just enjoy golf and allow Tiger to put his life back in order as best he can.

I don't even understand that comment.  Is this a "post only if you love Tiger thread?".  People post their opinions about subjects in the world to try and spur conversation, and share ideas and opinions.  I dont get your counter productive comment.  What do you suggest?  I am simply sharing my opinion about how I feel about the subject.  I am trying to point out the fact that fans of multi millionaire athletes, in general, will forgive him quickly, because at the end of the day, he is a very good golfer, therefore most people excuse what he did.  I like many people think this is not right, because it shows the world that once you get to a certain level of success, you simply dont have to care about any real concequences.  Is that ok?  Let me guess.......... I have no life, and am a tool. Genius

So if you have such stout opinions, and you hate tiger so much why would you even post on any thread about him? Thats whats funny is all the poeple who call him scum ect yet they want to post about it. Doesn't that seem counterproductive to you??

Excellent conversations.   "We dont care about anything in the world, and how it impacts anything!!"  Yay!!  Its so easy to say who cares and move on.

I guess I have no life either.  Im going to live an opinion free life from now on.  Just easier. Ridiculous

that's why you can't find any job in detroit hahahah

Well... that pretty well closes this out.  Comments like that prove the lack of intelligence of some people on these boards and actually it's pretty well typical american thinking isn't it??   Sad though... because the truth is if you're american you should be cheering on the rest of americans and hoping they do well, not joke about the worst economy in 50 years and joke about people struggling to live.

But once again... typical.....

What do you mean nothing to say? I'll be the first to admit that some of the things said are just as you say someone just trying to get their response out , but i don't care much it's read about , what more about it needs to be said? Tiger cheats on his wife, he has not honored his marriage vows, he has dealt with the legal aspect of this incident and he has apologized to his wife , family and his inner circle of friends and business associates and did it publicly. WHat the hell else is he obligated to do? NOTHING! Let it go. If questions regarding his golf game and what effect the lay off will have on his game , his chances of winning the masters, then fire away. I've said this before, he owes nothing to any one, NOTHING. Damn, people get a life.
