Tiger on Thursday: TV or not TV?

Posted on: March 31, 2010 8:41 am

Two of the key questions relating to next week's Masters involve how club officials will handle the pairings dilemma and when Tiger Woods will hit his opening Augusta National shot.

That is, which unlucky saps will be paired with Woods in the first two rounds, putting them in the eye of the storm as he concludes a 144-day layoff after enduring one of the biggest public-relations disasters in sports history, and how much will be seen on TV?

Just for the record, below is the complete list of his playing partners at Augusta since he turned pro, courtesy of the Associated Press. Also note the tee times, which are interesting in that the ESPN broadcast window on Thursday is from 4-7:30 p.m. Based on past history, it seems fair to say that in a best-case scenario, only his back nine will be televised live. The latest he has teed off is 1:52 p.m.

If he tees off in the morning wave, before noon, it stands to reason that nary a shot will be seen live on the network since he'll likely be finished by 4 p.m.

2009 _ 1:52 p.m.    Stewart Cink, Jeev Milkha Singh
2008 _ 10:45 a.m.  Angel Cabrera, Stuart Appleby
2007 _ 1:52 p.m.    Paul Casey, Aaron Baddeley
2006 _ 10:23 a.m.  a-Edoardo Molinari, Robert Allenby
2005 _ 1:33 p.m.    Darren Clarke, Carlos Franco
2004 _ 1:30 p.m.    a-Casey Wittenberg, Thomas Bjorn
2003 _ 10:44 a.m.  a-Ricky Barnes, Angel Cabrera
2002 _ 10:53 a.m.  a-Bubba Dickerson, Toshi Izawa
2001 _ 12:57 p.m.  a-Mikko Ilonen, Mike Weir

Tiger on Thursday: TV or not TV?

Wow.  I do love the logic of these Tiger lovers.  It takes two.  Yes..those porn stars should have had better morales dont you think? They had just as much to lose as Tiger too.  The Porn stars should have been thinking about Tigers wife and kids!  How dare they!!

The difference here...is that Tiger is followed by millions of people.  To compare him to a regular person is ridiculous.  In other words, he has even MORE responsibilty to live a clean life than me, or you.  Its not that hard of a concept to grasp. If this was the lifestyle he wanted, to sleep around with multiple partners,...why get married and have kids?  And I love this whole, oh as long as you check into sex rehab, all is forgiven fad.  Jesse James...smart man...follow that trend superstar.  Unfortunately we live in a world where big salaried superstars can do whatever they want with no reprocutions because fans love to forgive and forget.  "Oh he checked into rehab!!...it wasnt his fault..he was an addict!!"   Hilariouos.
What's funny is, all these people who feel Tiger is morally corrupt for what he did, what is all this based on?  Religion?  Probably 90% of the people who posted here feel that its okay for two men or two women to engage in a same sex marriage, and that's NOT okay in most Religions, so what do you people actually stand for?  You stand for the sanctity of Marriage, but ignore that the bible says that a marriage is a bond between a man and a woman.

Get real.  This isn't about marriage...  Get to the heart of what you're really mad about.

Tiger on Thursday: TV or not TV?

I expect it to be bussiness as usual. I don't see any reason why he should be covered more or less than normal as it is a tournament and the interest on Tiger is still the same. Sure some people don't like what he did in his life towards his wife and family but thats between him and them and has nothing to do with us general public. Most of us might not like what he did but he is still the world's number 1 golfer and people like me tune in to watch him play and not to criticize or debate his past bahaviors. As far as I'm concern, that is between him and his wife and I'm sure by him being back on the golf course shows that he is ready to play golf again and I'm pretty sure he had discuss he's plans now and future with his wife. I have a feeling his wife will have more say to his life now than before as I'm sure he doesn't want to go thru hell again with his wife, family and his fans. Welcome back Tiger, hope the past stays in the past.

Tiger on Thursday: TV or not TV?

Tiger is back and I love it. The best golfer of all time. And before all the Tiger haters get on here and say he does not have the most majors yet so he is not the best the key word is yet. He will it's just a matter of time. I dont care if they dont show him much on Thursday or Friday because he will be shown a lot on the weekend. I'm sure between ESPN and the golf channel we will see enough of him during the first two rounds. Welcome back Tiger and good luck. Like GOD forgives I also forgive.

That's right, we should want to be like that man! A good father, supportive and looking out for his children. The idea that anyone, even Tiger can do what they want, when they want, with no remorse or repercussion is what is wrong in our country as a whole! Sports are for entertainment....keep the private life private. BUT when you CHOOSE to portray yourself as something and do the total opposite, U run the risk of "falling from grace", BIG TIME! Many athletes are good people, even normal if you will. I know several.....you may not! That I feel is my ultimate point. Many choose celebrity for ALL the wrong reasons! Tiger does deserve a 2nd chance as an athlete and a human being,BUT not a 3rd, 4th,etc. Time will tell. AND again, you should want to be "like that man" and not Tiger!

The easiest thing to do would be to simply ask the players: "Who wants to be paired with him?". I'm sure they can find at least a couple of guys. Mickelson says he would, but you can never be sure of anything Phyllis tells you; he's constantly in spin-doctor mode. I bet O'Meara would. And so would Bubba Watson. Hell, he's already a bundle of nerves, wouldn't make any difference to his game.

Tiger on Thursday: TV or not TV?

Hey everyone wants to see if the best player in the world is still the best. Some hope for failure while others like myself expect the best to stay the best. That is not the reason for the comment though. I think you have already called some guys saps because they are playing with tiger,WHAT? Are you saying that nobody of importance will be playing with him?
