PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- Here's a No. 1 ranking that Tiger Woods would just as soon yield to somebody else.

In a poll reported this week by Forbes, Woods is tied with NFL quarterback Michael Vick as the nation's most disliked athlete, with each receiving a 60 percent disapproval rating.

Vick was listed first, however, because he got more votes of "dislike a lot" from respondents than did Woods.

The numbers were compiled by Nielsen and E-Poll Market Research. Vick was convicted five years ago of running a dog-fighting ring and served time, while Woods endured a well-chronicled sex scandal and divorce.

NFL receiver Plaxico Burress (56%), NFL defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh (51%), NBA players Kris Humphries (50%), Lebron James (48%) and Kobe Bryant (45%), NFL receiver Terrell Owens (45%), MLB infielder Alex Rodriguez (44%) and NASCAR driver Kurt Busch (42%).

Does Forbes have anything to do with professional sports? Seriously, you can take the best players in any sport and find an obscene amount of people that hate them. Especially a great BLACK golfer and BLACK quarterback. These kind of polls reveal the worst truth about our societies hidden racism. AS FOR STEVE ELLING, par for the course on Tiger Woods hate articles. Keep up the garbage writing you putz.

I should add that my old man was one, so I have some familiarity with them.

Vick is a psychopath/sociopath, and they are very good at "impression management". They feel no actual emotions of empathy and sympathy, but are good at figuring you out and how to manipulate you. That's all he's doing now, there's no genuine remorse going on here.

Huh.  I guess Bud Selig is not considered an athlete?

Typical American puritanism. Vick commits felonies. And we have football players who have killed people. But Tiger Woods, who has committed no crimes, is tied for #1 on the hate list. Says more about America than it does Tiger.

And little weeny Elling with his man-hate for Tiger is the first to report it. Situation normal in America.

Haha, Vick beat Tiger by a tie-break!  I wish the golf media (television, specifically) would take note of this.  They will roll their eyes at my comment and say condescendingly, "That's why we're All Tiger All The Time, because people love him or hate him."  Well, if that is the case, how about a little equal time for both sides from the announcers.  Rather than continue to cover Woods like it's 2001 and everyone loves him, why not have 60 percent of the announcers cracking jokes at Tiger's expense.  Anyone who watched the Detroit Lions the second half of the season knows the announcers gave Suh little mercy.

If I may make a serious comment:  I never liked Michael Vick.  He was rude and vulgar to the fans in Atlanta, he gave an STD to an unsuspecting woman, and he was stopped in an airport with a suspicious bit of paraphenalia.  Those are just the ones I can remember ofhand.  He was not a model citizen even before the dog-fighting revelations.

But since his release from prison, he has worked hard to combat cruelty to animals.  He has stated that his goal is to help more dogs than he hurt.  He seems legit to me, and I say give the man his props for his work on that front.

I'd throw Vick naked and bound into a kennel full of large dogs that hadn't been fed for five days.
