Just when we thought the Navy SEALS story about Tiger Woods was dead, GolfDigest.com revealed even more from the upcoming Hank Haney book and it’s even more intense than you think.

"The Big Miss" is the upcoming Haney account of his time with Tiger, and while the book hasn’t hit the stores yet, pieces keep leaking and it just gets juicier and juicer.

So we know that Tiger thought about becoming a Navy SEAL, but how intense was he? According to the book, incredibly. Tiger went on multiple training sessions with the SEALS, and even did a three-day parachute training session just 18 days before the 2006 U.S. Open, which prompted the following e-mail from Haney to Woods.

With the U.S. Open 18 days away, do you think it was a good idea to go on a Navy SEALs mission? You need to get that whole SEALs thing out of your system and stick to playing Navy SEAL on the video games. I can tell by the way you are talking and acting that you still want to become a Navy SEAL. Man, are you crazy? You have history to make in golf and people to influence and help. Focus on your destiny, and that isn't flushing bad guys out of buildings in Iraq. Just play the video games some more. That Navy SEAL stuff is serious business. They use real bullets.

The four page excerpt on GolfDigest.com has even more about his infatuation with the SEALS, saying Tiger went as far as to play SEALS-based video games for days on end and even told Haney they’d make an age-exception for him if he wanted to join, but your best bet is to head over to their site and read the whole thing for yourself.

Tiger might have dismissed questions about this last week, but the more information that comes out, the more he’s going to get the random reporter wondering just how far he was willing to take this idea before he finally snubbed it.

yeah, I am sure he went on actual SEAL missions, give me a break. No one, not even T. Woods, would be allowed to go on a mission that could potentially risk the lives of highly trained assets just to placate his fantasy of being part of an elite group.  Stick to Golf,  double bogeys on a SEAL mission usually results in a death.

I'm starting to think Haney lived in a distorted reality.  Tiger may have been doing things with the Seals but I'm pretty sure this was his outlet.  You can't eat, sleep and drink golf (or any sport) all day long without having something else to take your mind off of it.  Even Jordan had other things than basketball.  Gambling, golf (both).  I think Haney needs to get a reality check and realize that Tiger was doing what was in his best interest (outside of the affairs) and getting away from golf for a bit.  Sounds like Haney was fired for a good reason.

Having read a handfull of these posts I realize that I must have interpreted this all wrong.  I thought that Tiger's father was military trained and that Tiger worshipped him.  For some strange reason I looked at this story as Tiger paying homage to both his father and displaying his respect for the military, all at the same time. I guess things just aren't that simple. What a terrible thing he has done and, boy, am I glad I was able to get schooled up by all of the input here before I mentioned my uninformed opinion somewhere.

Really?  You don't just walk on a base and start blowing sh** up.  Any mention of what BUDS class he was in?  What was his instructor's name?  What a joke and a diservice to the real operators that give everything for our country.

Haha I could see it now...Tiger being the lead man kicking down the door of some compound in the sandbox overseas and his weapon jams prompting him to yell at his weapon "your a beauty you know that!?!?" What a clown.

Who gives a crap that Tiger wanted to be a Navy SEAL?  The only reason Haney is writing the book is for money.  I hate to feel sorry for Tiger but there is no loyality in sports.  Now anything that Tiger said privately will now be released to the public.  I just don't get the purpose.  I would not be lining up to get taught by Hank anytime soon.

Does anyone else think Haney's "...and that isn't flushing bad guys out of buildings in Iraq" hilarious?  I'm not an expert, but I would guess that a Navy SEAL would be less trained, than say an Army Ranger, to work in a landlocked environment.  Wouldn't a Navy SEAL be used where there is some chance for WATER?!?!?!

He went to Stanford, what do you expect?  I believe they require 8 semesters of entitlement training.

Everyone knows guys like Tiger, that's the point. The only thing special about him is his golf game- other than that he's a spoiled brat that acts like he's entitled to do whatever the hell he wants whenever the hell he wants. Why are you sticking up anyways for a guy that would just assume spit in your face than admit your existence in his world.
