DORAL, Fla. -- Guess they'll have to settle for their battle three weeks ago at Pebble Beach.

Though it sounds hard to believe, when Phil Mickelson made his annual trip up to Augusta National earlier this week for some Masters recon, he spent his practice time solely with new running mates Dustin Johnson and Keegan Bradley.

That's because Tiger Woods was a no-show.

Mickelson said Wednesday at the Cadillac Championship that two marquee players had planned to play together, but it fell through.

"I guess it was the intimidation," Mickelson cracked.

Playing in the same group as Woods three weeks ago at the AT&T National Pro-Am at Pebble Beach, Mickelson came from six shots back in the final round, shooting 64 to win. He beat Woods by 11 strokes that day.

In fact, Mickelson was full of whistling one-liners about Woods on Wednesday. When he was asked about the 8-under 62 that Woods shot last Sunday in the final round of the Honda Classic to nearly come from behind to win, Mickelson was in prime form.

"Obviously, [Tiger] was paying attention a couple of weeks ago, which is nice to see," he said, causing laughs from many in the room.

Some in the room clearly didn’t get the reference to Pebble Beach.

"At least I thought it was funny," Mickelson said, making a hand motion above his head. "Whoosh."

Publicists for both players said after Mickelson's press conference at Doral Golf Resort & Spa that they had no personal knowledge of any plans for the two to play together at Augusta National.

That's a lot of hate for someone who read an article with Tigers name in the headline.

Yes, really: Tiger, Lefty in a Masters friendly?

If someone was leading the Masters by 18 strokes after 2 rounds, Saturday's sports headlines would be about how many putts Tiger missed and how many times he went to the bathroom that day. I absolutely refuse to follow golf any more. I so enjoyed it when ELDRICK was NOT playing. It introduced many to some really excellent players and some fine gentlemen of the sport. I love Lefty. Man cares more about his family than Tiger could even have pretended to. It is a shame that since his return, it has all gone back to Tiger this and Tiger that. Tiger can go to h***.

Big Ken,

Tiger did not LOSE anything. He gave it all away because he can't keep his thing in his pants. If he had not been such an a**hole to the media and fans earlier on in his career, he would ahve been given some leaway. Howver, just like Barry Bond's, his arragance and surliness took away any chance that people were going to cut him a break. You reap what you sow. As far as I am concerned, I hope Tiger NEVER wins another tourny.

Thankfully Phil was joking around, Tiger is only intimidated by the false sense of security with his new swing. Do not be surprised if he is there this week end and pushing Pack if not leading on the Back 9 at the masters. These are 2 courses that he loves and feels good playing. The mpre positive vibes he feels the better off he will be. I am a Tiger Golf Fan and I will be untill I can;t be anymore, what he did was wrong and he has had to pay the ultimate price, But we should let this golfer get on and get back to the level he was at, he is really really close!!

Can many of you just move on......??

The guy has paid for his indiscretions....

He lost his wife and children
He's been publicly humiliated
He had to pay his ex-wife $750,000,000
He's lost sponsorships and endorsments
His golf game tanked to the sludge at the bottom of the barrell

He's attemting to salvage what's left of a magnificent career and at least be a challenger in the game of golf.

The story about pushing the kid is pretty much crap....If Tiger was slithering out where the "rats live" what the hell was a an 8 year old and his mother doing down there???Feeding the rats????

You left out the fact that most sportsfans here don't know squat about golf. Rory's swing is ten times sweeter than Tiger's ever was.

Rory may never be the story, two reasons, eh's not TIGER and he's not AMERICAN, the PGA Tour is our tour, like it or not we in this country want to see an AMERICAN leading the PGA Tour.
