Lemieux lashes out

Get the feeling that Sidney Crosby’s concussion issues are a lot more serious than anyone thought at first?

The Penguins captain wasn’t his usual optimistic self about returning any time soon when he spoke to reporters this week, and that should have been the first clue. But Pittsburgh owner Mario Lemieux made it even clearer by releasing a pointed statement that smacked of frustration about the condition of his franchise player.

Crosby has been out since Jan. 5, the result of a blindside hit by Washington’s David Steckel in the Winter Classic and being run into the glass by Tampa Bay’s Victor Hedman in the following game. But Lemieux waited until the league handed out discipline decisions following the fight-filled game between the Penguins and New York Islanders on Friday that produced 346 penalty minutes, 10 ejections, 15 fighting majors and 20 misconducts. The Hall of Famer called the game a ‘travesty’ and embarrassing to the sport, and went even further to highlight his displeasure.

“If the events relating to Friday night reflect the state of the league,” Lemieux said, “I need to re-think whether I want to be a part of it.”

He has that right of course. But it is worth noting that Lemieux didn’t feel the need to do any introspection when Pittsburgh forward Matt Cooke jeopardized the career of Boston’s Marc Savard with a blind side hit last March, or when Cooke went un-penalized for a knee-on-knee hit to Washington’s Alex Ovechkin. Didn’t utter a word of criticism either when Max Talbot got away with a hit that left Islanders forward concussed the last time the teams met or when Cooke was suspended for four games last week for a blind side hit on Columbus’ Fedor Tyutin.

But Lemieux felt compelled to speak up when the latest incident left his injury-riddled team even more shorthanded than it was before/

“The NHL had a chance to send a clear and strong message that those kinds of actions are unacceptable and embarrassing to the sport,” Lemieux said. “It failed.”

Really? Well, Pittsburgh’s Eric Godard's 10-game suspension for leaving the bench was automatic, but Trevor Gillies of the Islanders took a nine-game suspension for hitting Eric Tangradi in the head and the punching him several times. And New York’s Matt Martin will sit for four games as a result for punching Talbot from behind. The Islanders organization was also hit with a $100,000 fine.

Sounds like a pretty strong message. It just doesn’t help ease the sting of losing your best player and not knowing for how long.

Lemieux lashes out

Interesting, but clearly you're mentally deficient for more than a few reasons.

1.) I'm not a Penguins fan. I really don't care about hockey in general. It's just when assholes like yourself pollute the message board with humor that would be better suited for a middle-school cafeteria instead of with coherent arguments, then I get a little irritated. And I'm not alone.

2.) Learn to spell, please. Even if you had proven a valid point somewhere amidst all your drivel (which I would fully grant if you did), if it was in the last post, it would still be diluted thanks to your grammar which seems to be akin to something that came out of of a horse's ass. "Cindy's" pubes could probably formulate more coherent sentence structure than you could.

3.) I was categorizing you as a "stinky wife-beater." Apparently, you're unaware of the fact that a wife-beater is a white, tank-top. Or, quite simply, a sleeveless white undershirt. But whatever fits the bill.

4.) Bahaha @ your throwing the mother's basement insult back at me. Can't make up your own comebacks huh? I'm beginning to believe that you and and your stink do belong in a middle school gym. Clearly no place for you here.

5.) And finally ... your insecurity! Anyone who opposes you and your "irrefutable" facts must be a "typical Penguins" fan. How nice it must be to construct that straw man argument each time you're confronted with an opposing viewpoint.

Anyways, enough for now. By the way, I hear having your head that deep in the sand (or, that deep in your own ass for that matter) is not healthy. Try opening a window. Or a zipper.

Oh darn I didnt make a sustainable argument it your eyes? damn it.  That was my sole purpose and I failed in the 40 seconds it took me to write my 1st comment.  It's a shame you dont approve.  All I stated was facts.  The Penguins DO have the most fighting majors.  Matt Cooke IS a dirty player.  Cindy IS concussed.  Penguins & their fans ARE hypocrits.  As far as my "sexual innuendos" go, what's the problem? are you a prude? Lighten up.  If 2 simple sentences stating well known facts that Mario & Cindy engage in erotic fornication with each other on a regular basis offends you so much you have to categorize me as a stinky wife beater with an IQ below 69 then perhaps you have some frusterations of your own you need to manage.  That is if you can turn your mother's basement lights on and get some fresh air to get away from prowling the internet smiting those who, god forbid, insult your precious Penguins.  Just a typical Pens fan you are, lashing out on those who insult your team with a disposition thinking, as a Pens fan, youre better than the rest when in reality youre no better than the average "wife beater."

Lemieux lashes out

I'm not quite sure what to make of this.  I hate it that one of my favorite players of all time decides to wait until his team gets beat up, physically and on the scoreboard, to whine about the state of the league, or at least as he sees it.

Several observations about this situation:

I don't like anyone pulling a Bertuzzi like Matt Martin did.  I can't stand Talbot, one of my least favorite players ever, but Martin's a big guy.  Get in his face and beat said ugly face in.  Don't stoop to his level.

Gillies has no self control, and deserved at least the 9 games.  He looks unhinged out there, and bears close watching by the league.

Godard.....when was the last time somebody jumped off the bench?  Enough said.

Johnson now thinks he's a tough guy....shut up and TRY to play goalie.  He should have been embarrassed that he gave up 5? goals to the ISLANDERS!  Don't fight a guy who handily beat up one of your actuall tough guys.  One of the stupidest plays all around that I've ever seen.  From Johnson challenging to Haley accepting to Godard jumping off the bench, there were zero good decisions made there.

Lemieux has gone out of his way to pay Matt Cooke good money, even though he is arguably the dirtiest player in the NHL right now.  To hear him whine about a "travesty".....I'm embarrassed for him.  There's a lot going on in Pittsburgh, most of it is negative, but don't act all high and mighty when you're the biggest part of the "problem" as you see it.  Pittsburgh leads the league in fighting majors, and have guys like Rupp, Asham, Godard, Talbot, Engelland, Adams, etc....guys who are ready and willing to fight.

I would love to say that Lemieux has earned the right to say whatever he wants, but he's basically criticizing himself at this point.  Where was the moral indignation when Letang knocked Spezza out for more than a month?  I'm not alone in saying that I just don't get it.

Gilles is nothing more than trash.
No better than thugs like Pronger and Cooke.

Personally next time they play I call up an ECHL guy and send him after Johnny and "send a message"
Ok now does that make sense to any of you???
Of course not cause its all crap that I just made up.

I love fighting in hockey but
But thats terrible...
Gilles ... ok i'm sorry about my rants on gillles but this guy really is trash.
Thats the biggest BS ever.

t message does that send to kids?*****************************

kids cheap shot someone than taunt them while they are down???**************
If you answered yes then I hope like hell you dont have kids or your just a 25/younger trying to sound all hard guy.

Someone hit on the Steve Moore point...
Matt Martin will not come in another game against the penguins this year without being looked for.
If i ran the organization I would have added another 15 games... sorry but remember Steve Moore?

For those who dont know who Steve Moore is you are not a real hockey fan or your just too stubborn to admit that this was the worst "game" in since the Steve Moore game.

Honestly Maxs hit on the guy a week ago that wasnt that bad... In 2003 Scott Stevens F ed up Paul Kariya in the Finals in Anaheim not in Jersey in Anaheim. There wasnt a price to pay. So stop saying Max had it coming cause in that case Scott Stevens would probably been shot on the ice with the number of guys he destoryed.

Lemieux lashes out

If you're in any way, shape or form representative of the rest of the hockey fans in this country (and Canado, too), then you'd do well to STFU. Any chance you had of making a sustainable argument whether in agreement with Lemieux or not was lost when you reverted to sexual innuendo. As it is, it sounds like the only one releasing sexual frustration in any of this is you. As to how your comment scored a 130, I'll never know. BTW, isn't it against some law somewhere to mention sexual acts (69ing, and the like) that feature a number higher than your IQ? And isn't the average life span of a wife-beater about a week? Might want to change and get a new pair of undies, kid. I can smell you from here.

Actually Lemiuex only owns about 15% of the team.  (the 28 mil he was owed from the team/ $170 mil they were bought for)  Ron Burkle owns the rest.  So in the end no he technically cant show the NHL the way, he would have to convince Burkle to do what he wanted.  I love how people do not know this and speak out like he is the sole owner.

Go ahead and show the NHL the way, then, Mario.  Don't you own the Penguins???  And as such, don't you have the right to suspend players from your team???  Go ahead and set the example the NHL should follow...suspend your own players involved in this "travesty"...otherwise, you're failing, too!!!

Raven Maniac: Are you completely ignorant or just a run of the mill moron ?  I think you might want to look back on the career of Mario Lemieux before you go around calling him "pudding". I guess where you come from an athlete is only tough if he got away with murder. You have every right to dislike all the teams which don#t come from your local area, but at least use facts when critcizing. Here you have an owner who is tired of his best player being an intended target  of many teams and the Islanders hiring some minor league thugs for one game with the sole purpose of beating people up.
