Who's No. 26?

Utah didn't make the cut, not in my preseason top 25 which debuted on Wednesday.

Being No. 26, though, is no disgrace. To explain Utah's absence I have to both disparage and praise the Utes. In one sense they are -- next to BYU -- the non-BCS team most likely to play in the Orange Bowl. That's part of the problem, though -- their proximity to BYU, both physically and in the polls.

My No. 12 Cougars are darn good, put in the vernacular you'd likely hear on the Provo campus. BYU is quickly getting back to the days of Lavell Edwards under fourth-year coach Bronco Mendenhall. It has the roster and the schedule to go undefeated.

One thing to remember, though. BYU finishes the season on Nov. 22 at Utah. That might mean a little something, certainly something more than the Mountain West title.

This comes down to the Cougars having a slightly better roster. BYU has Arizona State transfer Max Hall at quarterback. Utah has senior Brian Johnson who has been around so long, I can remember him as a freshman in 2004 under Urban Meyer. Johnson is athletic, running an offense similar to the spread option Alex Smith ran under Meyer.

We'll find out if Utah is any good right off the bat. It plays at Michigan on Saturday. I'm shocked to see that the Wolverines are a 3 1/2-point favorite. Utah has a better team, more experienced. Michigan has the home field, such as it is.

Utah's season hinges on that trip to Ann Arbor. It can lose but I see nothing on the schedule before the BYU game that will cause pollsters and/or computers to take notice.

Why No. 26? Before the Utes get to November, they have to take care of August.

Who's No. 26?

He did not mention Utah's coach. He said Bronco Mendenhall was BYU's coach.

Michigan 25? Mizzou 4?

Ok, I can rationalize keeping LSU out of the top 10 with the uncertainty at QB. I do not understand the realm of thought that puts Mizzou ahead of Florida and Georgia. Florida is fielding perhaps the most dynamic offense on the history of college football, and Georgia has the best pocket passer in the last 2 years to play college ball. I know Florida has concerns with pass defense, but I was unaware that Mizzou was a well balanced powerhouse of a program. I watch four of their games last year, and I came away somewhat impressed with Daniel, but not enough to warrant a preseason 4 over other teams that are more deserving.

You should have left Michigan out of your top 25, and through Utah in that spot. Florida state at 26.

Who's No. 26?

Once again Dodd exposes himself and lack of knowledge. As usual, hating on my Ducks by being the only one NOT having them in the top 25? Being the Husky-lover you are we will soften up the Mangy Mutts of Montlake at Eugene this weekend for the BYU team coming in.

Who's No. 26?

Dodd, is a fake analyst who doesn't no beans about football.   He cannot get his facts staright and he looks like a moron.   CBS  needs to have its shareholders investigate all programs and sports reporters.     They need a serious shakeup, Dodd does this crap all the time, he did similar mistakes when taking about the college football bowls 9 months ago.

I sure HOPE CBS does not pay this turd.  He he just got 5 stars on the turd-o-meter.

Who's No. 26?

Really Dodd if you can't even get who coaches what team right, you've got some serious writing handicaps. Even ESPN knows that the BYU coach is Bronco Mendenhall. And even though I'm a BYU fan I'm going to have to say that 12 is much to high for us, as we have an unproven defense. It seems that you just wrote this article without doing any real research, its almost like you cut and pasted from the CFB message board.

Who's No. 26?

This guy Dudd is a real idiot. He can't get the facts right(Kyle Whittingham 1 of many examples of factual mistakes if u read his columns). He is also predictable on his bias opinions. He is the only sports writer I've seen having UGA ranked outside the top 4 in the nation. I think he's a Dawg hater, or maybe an SEC hater. Either way He's a dumba$$!

Who's No. 26?

Dodd, nice piece, but as an FYI; Kyle Whittingham is actually Utah's coach, not BYU's. Kind of makes you wonder if Dodd is one of those hacks who doesn't pay attention to anyone outside of the big 6 conferences.
