Goodbye Gators

Hello, Pete Carroll? Urban Meyer, Line 1.

Pete: Urban, how are you?

Urban: Could be better. Listen did you happen to catch us on TV today?

Pete: No, I was out surfing. It was beautiful here today.

Urban: We lost to Ole Miss 31-30. Led 17-7 at half. Ever have that happen?

Pete: Dude, you DO remember we lost to Stanford last year, right?

Urban: Oh, yeah, right. Look, I wanted to ask you about your kicker.

Pete: Buehler? He's all right.

Urban: Yeah, Buehler, Buehler. When do you decide when to use him. I've got two guys and I'm not sure ... oh, never mind.

Pete: You're getting into a strange area there, pal. We usually don't have to worry about close games unless we're playing Oregon State, Stanford or UCLA.

Urban: Sorry, I'm just thinking out loud. I don't know where our season is headed.

Pete: You and me both. Hey, look, if there's nothing else, there's some gnarly swells hitting Manhattan Beach ...

Urban: Go ahead. Good luck.

Pete: Yeah, stay cool. Later.

Goodbye Gators

how does usc deserve a rating over ga???  ga was beaten by a top ten sec team while usc was beaten virtually the same way by a 24 pint dog who was 1-2?? bcs take care of this ??  i hope so... and ... sec is totally up to who beats who in their division.. ga fl and vandy... did i say vandy???  have their destiny in own hand,,thay still have to play each other... very conceivable to have a 2 conference loss team win the sec championship and then still win the national championship...  any thoughts?

Goodbye Gators

How Mr. Dodd came up with today's extremely LAME column:

DODD:  Heck, I gotta do a column about the Gators losing to Mississippi, but I really need to get some gas and do some grocery shopping.

DODD (he talks to himself, he loves the sound of his own voice):  That's no problem, remember it only takes us a couple of minutes to crank out one of these.  One minute to write it and another for the editing.

DODD:  Yeah, I know, but I've been wondering if we shouldn't spend a bit more time and effort on these.  You know, give it some serious thought, make some insightful comments...

DODD:  Nah, as long as it's provocative and gets people to respond, that's all we really need to accomplish here.  And that's easy to do with a team like the Gators.  People either love 'em or hate 'em, which works out great for us!

DODD: You're right of course, I don't know what I was thinking.  Wait,  that's it, I WAS THINKING!  Remind me never to do that again!

DODD: You've got it!

Goodbye Gators

SEC fans should just remove the kitchens from their houses altogether.  They love to dish-out the heat, but just cannot take it when it is turned back on them.  I am happy to see Dodd smack down the Gators and USC for blowing games that should have been cake walks.

Come on Gators, this was not Bama or LSU coming into the Swamp for a fight; this was Ole Miss.  And they beat UF at home!  Certainly, there is parity (as opposed to parody) all across the country, not just in the SEC as every good ol' boy in the South wants you to believe.  Just about any team in the country can beat one of the top tier schools on any given day.  The spread offense, QB athletes, turnovers, injuries, etc. level the playing field, and speed is everywhere.

The SEC is the strongest conference in the country right now, and nobody in their right mind will argue that; but SEC teams are not so elite that UCLA whips Tennessee, or Louisiana Tech spanks Miss. State or I-AA Wofford has S. Carolin on the ropes late in the 4th.  Get off of your high horse and realize that you are just like any other conference in the country, vulnerable!

Goodbye Gators

Which one-loss team from another conference do you think is as good as or better than either Georgia or Florida?

I'm not saying there aren't any, but I would like to know your opinion.

I think one-loss Florida is as good as USC.  I think undefeated LSU could take Texas, and Bama could win vs. Missouri.  I haven't seen Oklahoma play, so I'm not sure how strong they are.  The point is, we have top-caliber teams in the SEC, and folks can't quit talking about them.  That's why the SEC gets all the hype.

Goodbye Gators

You may be dumber than Dodd.

Georgia got beat by Alabama, another SEC team. Florida had their first turnovers of the season against Ole Miss, another SEC team. LSU beat Mississippi State by ten, another SEC team. So I'm trying to figure out how the SEC isn't as good as the hype, because from what I'm seeing, it's living up to more than just the hype.

And as much as I hate Saban for leaving Miami, he's not leaving Alabama anytime soon. That was a pretty irrelevant comment seeing as he only left Miami to go back to college.

Goodbye Gators

Could it be the SEC just isn't as good as the hype? Georgia gets killed at home (but Bama looks terrible the second half while winning)- Florida can't hold on to the ball- and these are teams in the top 5??? Bama will move up but LSU will shred their D and won't have a first half like Georgia did. Tennessee and Arkansas are second tier this year along many usual SEC second tier teams. And  does anyone really expect Vandy to stay up there?

And for all you Alabama fans- I'd start taking bets on who your next coach will be. Nick Saban is the Larry Brown of football- don't expect him to be around long.
