With the firing of Lane Kiffin, Syracuse has its first big-time candidate. Kiffin, as you should now, was at USC as the same time as current Syracuse AD Daryl Gross.
Kiffin is out of work. Syracuse needs a coach, or at least soon will need a coach. I'm not saying Kiffin is the ultimate answer but Gross could do worse. Lane simply made a wrong decision going to the Raiders. USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian had the job but wisely turned it down.
Two other names to add to the list: Saints offensive coordinator Doug Marrone (Syracuse 1983-85) and Oregon offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
Kelly doesn't have any ties to the school but coached in the region at New Hampshire. Kelly is doing a great job at Oregon but let's just say the interest would be mutual if Syracuse called.
