Penn Sate and Michigan news

It's amazing the things you see watching TV ...

Joe Paterno just said he would "run out" with the team in the 2009 season opener. Actually, he said it Friday night at the pep rally but if that's not a sign I don't know what is. Of course, that's all before JoePa undergoes hip surgery next week. The rumors were rampant this week that Joe would step down after this Michigan State game. But that's all they were, rumors.

If Joe quits at this point it will be because of complications with the surgery, not because of some master plan. The man still wants to coach.

Rich Rodriguez just threw Lloyd Carr under the bus. In a television interview he broached the subject that no one wants to up in the Detroit-Ann Arbor area: Lloyd Carr didn't exactly leave the cupboard full. Rodriguez ticked off all the roster holes then said, "I should have known better." Rodriguez basically admitted he took the Michigan job because it was Michigan, not knowing there were huge holes on offense.

Great day here in Oklahoma. It will be clear and in the 30s tonight for Texas Tech-Oklahoma.

That's a pretty good analysis.  I think we could have gone 7-5 if we had just stuck to a pro set scheme or just ran the ball out of the i more.  RR is a horrible coach - you can't  implement a spread offense with guys like Steve Threat and Nick Sheridan.  You are welcome to all three of them + a $10 M to Alabama's endowment if you can let us borrow Nick Saban for a couple of years.

Holes on offense? I don't care how many holes you have.  A person who can coach coaches the players to be able to fill those holes.  Heck, you are the University of Michigan, you bring in some of the best recruits in the nation.  Now maybe the best recruits in the nation saw how you handled leaving West Virginia and don't want to play for you.  How many recruits you think you are going to get now that you can boast that you have successfully given Michigan the worst season in school history?  Those hole you have to fill now are your own doing.  Have fun trying to fill them.

You only wanted to go to Michigan because it's Michigan?  Rich Rodriguez,  you are a lousy coach. You'll be lucky if you get 3 years at Michigan.  Then you'll be lucky if a Sunbelt team will take you.

Hey Dodder, make a jaunt on down to OU's student section tonight on a third down and 10 for Tech... then you';ll have something to write about. And I think RichRod might just be trying to prove that he appreciated WeVa... wait, no it couldn't be.

Exactly what system does Sheridan or Threet fit into?  Neither of them can throw so I know they don't fit into a pro-style system.  One only completes 47% of his passes and the other is a walk-on.  The fact is that Carr did leave the team without much to work with.   Rich can't just addapt his offense to the players he has on the team because the QB's will not be playing next year.  If he ran another style this year he would have to change everything around next year and lost a years worth of experience for the rest of the team.

So, is Rich Rod serious?

Did he really just basically blame EVERYTHING on Lloyd Carr?  I mean, does he not know that you have to adapt your offense to your personnel?  To bring such a radical change to a program like that takes time, you have to ease the system in, starting with what you can do with what you have.  But don't blame the guy before you because he left you with personnel that fit his scheme.  Now they may not done much either if playing the former system, but you can never know that either.

Sure, these guys have looked awful.  The both QBs have been terrible.  The whole team has looked slow.  Play to their strengths man.  I am soooooooooo glad that Bama didn't wind up with him.

RTR!!!

Maybe Schiano had more than one reason to turn down the UM job; or, this could just be sour grapes from RR.  He couldn't expect to have spread personnel lined up when the team ran a pro-style offense for 15 years.
